I mostly play as Vaulters, and right now, for every strategic and resource luxuries I don't need, I sold them, and used the dust to buy units/productions smiley: biggrin

Cool ^^ Sounds like you.re enjoying it, which is great !

Yeah, that one... but I would say loosing a turn to heal is kinda balancing the healing - if you don't have way more powerful army, you're taking risks.

About general discussion 'what to peak'... I started with Drakken, because of their 'dyplomatic approach'. Too bad it was my first game, so I wasn't sure how to make the dyplomatic victory - more so beacue I, somehow, managed to dominate in the end, at least as a military and scientific power. Still - I must say I got the impression back then that Drakken units are kind of powerful. And their Heroes especially.

Personally, I find the Vaulters much easier to play than the Wild Walkers - that.s why I recommended them in the first place.

Nevertheless, it may also be a matter of personal taste ^^

I find the Broken Lords easy. You can emphasize dust production and buy new citizens. How awesome is that? Save up some money when you're building a settler, then when you found your new city you can buy 2, 3 citizens and bingo - you've got a productive city.

Repair your military units with dust between turns. That's a great advantage.

The problem with that, I think, is that it requires a bit more of micromanagement than other factions (first few times I played the BL I kept forgetting to heal my units and buy population; I still do at times) and it doesn't get you used to managing food, like 8/9 factions have to do.

Personally, I believe Wild Walkers, Vaulters, and Drakken are all good factions to start with. Wild Walkers are the most straightforward to play and are very defensible and turtle-y with all those bonuses on forests. Vaulters are not too tricky and being able to teleport between cities is a nice trick for a new player; the extra bonus from the holy resource doesn't hurt. Drakken thrive in pretty much any region, their early army is very solid (not to mention their heroes...) and, if things ever go amiss, you have a get out of jail free card handy.

TecToss is another player on Endless Legend I recommend too. Not necessarily for tutorials, but rather to acquire gameplay basics.

I might be a bit late to answer this thread, but what I've done when I get the full package of EL with Guardians and Shadows is turning off the extensions to discover the basics of the game. I won a game with the Vaulters (to me the best faction to begin with, great defense bonuses which are perfect for a newbie), then activated Guardians for another game and finally Shadows.

It worked well, and thus I get all the great mecanics of this great and complex 4X game. I hope you have come to this point too ^^

I am. I really, really am smiley: smile

Even watching let's play videos for this one, not even doing it for CIV:V or CIV:BE:RT. Watching those videos really open my mind!

I realise the game has been out for a while, and I've been meaning to buy it for a long time. However, once the whole package was discounted on Steam I couldn't resist.

My question is:

Where do I start? smiley: confused

FWIW, I'm going to throw out there that I started with Mezari since I "played" them in the tutorial and they just seem to work really well naturally without having to obsess over stuff. There's plenty of advanced tricks and all but they just seemed to "flow" well. Basically just throw all citizens on Industry and enjoy the ride.

Later when I tried the Wild Walkers (I think 3rd/4th faction played)...it was a jarring experience. The biggest problems I had were a much worse starting hero, difficulty getting Science, and a "worse" base unit. I put "worse" in quotes for the unit because Rangers are very good...but they're not as good as an "all around" unit compared to Marines. Marines can take the hits (well, more than Rangers at least) and have much better damage (at the cost of less range, less initiative, and less attack) which means you can use them more as Shock Troops rather than Glass Cannons.

I will mention that I was playing on Endless difficulty which likely was part of the problem -- the lack of Science on lower difficulties would be perfectly fine since you don't need nearly as much Science.

Yes, hyper industrialist bunny elves are the most straight forward, while still being very interesting and cool to play (range 5 archers ftw).

I second the Wild Walkers. They are shooty elf types that want to be dwarves because they get all kinds of bonuses to production when their cities are in the woods.

I'd say a normal difficulty game and play as the Wild Walkers. They are the most straight forward race and a good place to start for beginners.

All the other races have one or several very unique properties that makes it harder to get a grip for a beginner...even the Vaulters.

That said, if you are familiar with 4x games at all, I don't think you'll find yourself too horribly lost. If you've played Endless Space...so much the better.

Just keep in mind that each race in this game is truly unique. It's not like Civ where everyone is playing humans and the only difference is one tech and one unit or something like that. There are races that don't consume food, some can only build one city, some can't be at peace etc. It's an awesome game. smiley: smile

My guess : play as Vaulters on a medium map against the Cultists on a lower difficulty level.
