I would love to be able to use my heroes as Ambassadors, and put them in a city with his owner knowing it and maybe giving his permission.

It would work as the spying system introduced by Shadows, and these ambassadors could perform sping actions of level 1 max on the empire they're in (it would take a long time to reload these, and without seniority bonuses).

Their presence would decrease the cost of diplomatic actions between the 2 empires , and for the faction of the ambassador it would generate a fair amount of diplomatic points.

Of course, the owner of the city could choose to kick them out for influence points.

That's definitely something I would like to see in EL.

That's more or less what I proposed in the VIP section, with a few more twists and additions.

Since a solid majority want naval combat (so do I, though I value diplomacy improvements a bit more. Hopefully we can have both), how about we discuss how naval combat would look like?

Would you like it to be the same as land combat, where units perform the same role at sea as they do on land? Or would you prefer that each faction gets one dedicated naval unit, while other, embarked, units get severe penalties so as to make them unreliable?

I, personally, vastly prefer the latter. Naval combat should not be like land combat. While it can have similar mechanics, each faction having one new unit, complemented by faction-unique abilities and choices of weapons, would make naval combat a different experience. Imagine, for instance, necrophage ships leaving behind them a trail of acid each round as they move, that damages units on or adjacent to it.

Another faction would require time and resources in order to ensure it's balanced. I think we have more diverse and unique factions, with different gameplay mechanics and strategy than most 4X games.

Naval combat, one last major naval faction, some minor naval factions and heroes, and then some balancing. Would be a great bang to go out on.

I think the most urgent fix the game has needed all the way back since it came out is the implementation of a naval aspect. As things stand, I avoid playing in island maps or with more than one continent, which in turn keeps me from playing in the larger map sizes as I find the idea of endless (ha!) stretches of land a little boring. And when you consider how important seas and oceans have been throughout the history of civilization, the very bare bones approach EL has in that regard is rather immersion breaking.

Not to mention annoying at times. The only thing that beats not being able to attack an army because they are invulnerable while on the water is not being able to conquer an enemy player's last city because it is at the end of a one hex wide peninsula and right next to a minor faction village smiley: frown

Agreed I'd say naval additions would be my second choice after improved global events, as naval warfare is something every other similar game has and has needed yet endless legend still needs. That being said the game still functions brilliantly without but if you wanted to make a great game fantastic... would love to see a developers insight on these, maybe give us a hint of what's coming after this winter themed expansion? (wink*wink*nudge*nudge*)

Of course with the new endless space 2 coming out in the near(ish) future we unfortunately can't expect to many new features for endless legends and we already know the next major update is shifters with possibly one more major update and maybe a few minor updates.

So knowing the limited amount of time that amplitude can further put into this game, if you had to chose one feature, what would you want most?

I know mine: Increased variance and quality of global events. I love the idea of global events but there arent to many in endless legend and every game you get the exact same ones in roughly the same order, I'd love more kinds of events with maybe an option for them when setting up the game (i.e. quanitity of global events, which types of global event and an option for randomness and timing of events.)

IMO More Hero interaction with diplomacy would lead to when your exploring with your hero and run into a faction you meet for the first time maybe? Maybe? you can force or bluff your way into better trade or ask for more than you may get if the other player sees a high level Hero show up and his units are on the other side of their territory.

Then again

Different kinds of ships looks fun though how would a FFT type battle happen on the open seas?

Your better ships have more/can hold more units and have more space than lower level ships? By more space I mean more squares/hex to move.

I think balance should be added to the list, a lot of votes from everything else would go to it instead probably.

Actually a fistful of scenarios would be awesome !

Like in Civilization: predefined maps with a little bit of random in lands generation to keep the spirit of Endless Legend; only few factions more or less developed involved in each scenario; the stories could emphasize relations between factions etc. etc.

Diplomacy, and I had suggested integrating heroes into that in the VIP forums.

A set of campaigns, where each mission-specific quests replace the default faction quests for that race (the faction quests remain available for custom scenarios and multiplayer).

I'd love a series of mini-expansions, with each containing a campaign for a specific race.

I think that around 5-10 missions per campaign would be great.
