Amplitudes stance on community patches

Hey everyone,

I assume it should be clear that this game has run its course when it comes to official support. I'm not salty, the game is feature complete, fun and a few years old. But there are still some bugs in the game, some of them pretty egregious (Ai building fleets in little ponds, Forgotten techtrade, Forgotten heavily undervalueing tech stealing, "select idle army" not working properly). While there are workarounds for some of them (Forgotten techtrade) in the steam workshop, most of these issues require editing of the core files.

Lets say some modder knows how to do just that and wants to take on the mantle of continuous patch support provider. How would Amplitudes stance be on that? Would they frown upon it? Would they ignore it? Would they maybe even welcome it (say in the form of allowing threads concerning the fanpatch in the modding forum). It would be great if I could get some kind of official statement on this.

kind regards

We would 100% allow such initiatives, as we do for Endless Space 2.

Community patches would be very welcome by the community, too!

(Don't forget the Cultists ability to aquire additional cities through trade, and Allayi luxury boost duration affecting stockpiles!)

My very first patch will be more of a proof of concept that will only contain some basic stuff.  But I am very open to receiving bug lists. I didnt know about the Allayi issue for example ;).

As for the Cultist thing: I kinda liked it as I find them to be on the weaker side anyway (especially when the AI plays them .. only time time they ever manage to stay alive is when they get one or two early cities through treaties). However if it is generally considered as a bad thing I will fix it ofcourse.

Well, the Cultists entire conceit is that they can, under no circumstances, have no more than one city. In previous iterations of the game, if they got a city from trade it would be destroyed (just as when conquering it). This bug was actually appeared, and then was fixed, once already during the Tempest expansion, and then reappeared with another patch. I would certainly consider it a bug.

Regarding the Allayi issue, it's not an issue until they get enough of a bonus that their production stockpiles allow them to produce more production stockpiles! This leads to something of a crazy runaway effect.

I think there is also one other bug involving a Forgotten building (perhaps a Pearl's building) that should produce dust instead of science, but instead produces nothing. Maybe one of the intensifier buildings? I will have to check.

You mean Nyctalopian Lenses? One could argue that "well but the forgotten still get the winter vision" however ofcourse nobody would purchase that building only for that. The easier solution would probably be to disallow the building and altar tech all together for the forgotten (since it would be rather unusual for a preexisting building to give an entirely different resource depending on race i think?)

As for the Allayi thing: Again I'm wondering if its actually good to fix the issue, since as far as I have experienced they are somewhat on the weaker side (their mechanics kinda prevent going wide and going tall, with the release of tempest the ocean is no longer a safe source of pearls). But its good to be aware of the issue anyway, maybe ill play some Allayi games and test the actual impact of it ;).

I'm not sure if it's the Lenses - if it's just that, they're probably fine!

The Allayi thing is very minor; it's really just for completeness.

Let me know if you need a beta tester!
