This is honestly my last hope. I have looked through forums, file dumps , and anywhere else  I could get information about the game in order to find a mod or a patch or something to make the  text and UI bigger when playing in a resolution beyond 2k. I have tried to show this game to other people that are fans of other turn-based strategy games that are similar to this. They even love the setting, but as soon as the get to the gameplay they tell me that they aren't going to strain their eyes to try to play this very text intensive game let alone do so for multipule hour at a time.

You have a beautiful game and I would love to play it in 4k, but the UI is so small that I can't.  I can't even gift this game to other people in good conscience because I know that they would have the same issue I do, which has been an issue for me twice already.

I post this now because the new expansion came out so I hope the devs are looking.  Please help me, after reading posts from years ago, I understand that this may be a difficult thing to do technically, but it would have sold you two more copys just by me giving them as gifts. While that may mean almost nothing the the grand scheme of how many copies you need or want to sell, but I bet I'm not the only one. I LOVE your world and depth and your gameplay hits the spot like no other game does, so please don't think that I am knocking your game. Help me play it.

Any response is greatly appreciated.

Did you try the Big Screen User Interface? (Options -> UI)

I play with Big Screen User Interface and it does the trick.

Yes, I had it on. But just to make sure though I deselected and reselected it just incase the update changed anything. I don't understand how that this fix. When i try to read the descriptions on anything they are almost illegible.

Would still be nice to scale the UI bigger or smaller the way you want versus just a static Big Screen User Interface button.

I'm thinking of upgrading to 4K gaming this year around November/BlackFriday/CyberMonday, and I wasn't aware of this issue!

I support this initiative, would be great to add proper UI scaling for 4K to Endless Legend, it's a classic by now and should be properly supported and curated because I plan to keep playing/returning to Endless Legend for years to come!

Moreover 4k will become mainstream in a couple of years (New Xbox and PS5 launch around 2021).

4K support would be indeed very welcome, not sure how complicated it is codewise but I hope they can cover the costs by factoring them into the price of the next add-on or expansion.

Unfortunately, to make Endless Legend truly work in 4K would mean we'd have to redo basically all the graphics. From the icons to the quest artwork to the UI, basically anything you see on the screen would have to be upscaled. This is a massive undertaking that is not in the scope of what we can do with Endless Legend. Factoring them in the cost of the next expansion, if it was even possible, would likely triple its cost...

So you are saying there is a next expansion, huh? :p

I have tried my hand in scaling UI elements via coding for ELCP, but so far I had some pretty weird results. Not sure if its possible at all without redoing assets, probably not.

Thanks a lot for replying and clarifying the 4K situation! I understand now, if the assets, art, UI elements have to be redrawn it's too much work/man hours to be profitable unless we are talking a re-release such as an Endless Legend Remaster in the future.

Do you have to play at 4k? I play at 1440p and UI is readable, the visuals sharp, and the framerate great.

Not neceserally, actually after researching a bit more I don't think it's worth jumping on the 4K bandwagon this year, kinda too expensive. So I might grab one of those Samsung 144hz Freesyinc 2 HDR 1440p Quantum dot Gaming Monitors.

Problem is I'm currently using a 24 inch 1920*1200p Dell IPS Monitor and can't test the UI at 1440p to see how well it scales. I would greatly appreciate if you could post some screenshots with Big Screen User Interface On, and Off at 2560*1440p?

Best regards,

P.S : Actually I don't even know if Endless Legend is framerate capped seeing I have a 60Hz monitor, could I actually run it a 144 fps?

Edit: typo

Yes, the game can run @144hz although it states 2560x1440(60). I have an Acer Predator with 144hz.

Since I applied new thermal paste today and testing temperatures, I made a couple of screenshots for comparison.

Thanks for the screenshots Kray!

With Big Screen UI enabled there's a slight yet noticeable loss of Sharpness (no biggie for me tought), however looks like enabling it adeversely affects constrast (blacks look greyer/crushed, looks like there is a grey filter over the entire screen), that's what kills it for me and pushes it on the no-no camp. Too bad because Big Screen UI scales perfectly for 1440p, matching the UI size of 1080p.

I think 1440p the the max treshold for BIG Screen UI; ramping up to 4K resolution and even with Big Screen UI enabled, it would be too small and straining on my eyes. Also the difference of sharpness between the UI and the Game map/assts would be stark.

I dont think the "grey" look in the top picture has to do with big screen UI, the whole screenshot looks washed out, even the world tiles. Big Screen UI should have nothing to do with contrast.
