PATCH NOTES 1.6.4
  • AI empires should privilege tiles which give 6 neighbours when colonizing (less city centers near borders).

To whomever worked on this change: a lot of people, myself included, seeing a lot more bordered city centers on this patch then ever before. Maybe problem isn't with prioritisation, maybe  there's a bug with how AI identifies border tiles?

Few AI cities to the left with same problem didn't made into this screenshot. Arrows point toward ill-placed city centers:



As I human player I struggle sometimes to choose a proper position between ill shaped region borders, ridges and lakes. AI has large plains filled with anomalies to its service, yet still settles in the corner of the region. I don't even...

A freshly built (turn 175) city center in Frayhame region (top of the screenshot) especially puzzles me. Why there of all places?!

The bug might still happen in higher difficulties, but the specific change that was implemented (and thus included in the release notes) is affected by difficulty settings, we are looking into it but it seems any difficulty below hard ignores this change completely (before you say it, yes, it shouldn't, it is an unexpected behavior).

I played 2 games with 7 AIs on Serious difficulty, vanilla version post Inferno, and saw that too. The fix or whatever it is doesn't work well. Still I must admit it is better than what it was before Inferno. If I had to give a ratio I'd say before Inferno around 70% of AI cities were founded at the worst possible location while it is 40-50% now.


With the Community Patch it is around 10-15% and very often it's only because of very weird regions with a long and thin shape.


I appreciate that you looked into it but honestly just take a look at what LeaderEnemyBoss did. And not only for that but also for many other AI related things (retrofiting, heroes management including dust healing, spying, production behavior in cities etc...).


Love what you did with the Kapaku though :)
