As much as I love ES I still think that diplomacy was it's weakest part. With that in mind, will we see some improvements on diplomacy part in EL?

My suggestion to make it more interesting:

*Add spies/infiltrate troop to cripple enemy economy and/or army

*Add Vasal states. This way you can choose not to destroy your enemy but rather make them fight for you. You as a player get option to tell A.I. where to attack, defend, etc...

*Alliance should matter more: When you from an alliance with someone, you or your ally can't declare war against someone without the consensus. This should make you think twice with whom are you going to form an alliance. Sometimes it's better to be friend with different faction/empire.

*Alliance should matter even more: You can ask from your allies to help you attack specific part of the enemy territory or specific city.

Hope you liked my suggestion, I really think that Diplomacy should be much more then it is in ES smiley: smile

Hey Metaldream !

Thank you for your input. First of all during the Alpha early acces, you will have a very basic diplomacy, but don't worry our goal is definitely to go beyond what we reached with ES.

we will have 3 areas of improvement:

- Diplomacy is a ressource, spamming offers is not a strategy and relationships matters! choose wisely how to use your diplomacy.

- What is the AI thinking? why did they decide to do something? the AI should be much better at explaining why it is taking its decisions.

- Better coordination between players and AI.

I hope you will appreciate that when it comes, but again, not for our initial Alpha release smiley: wink

Thanks for the answer, I'm really exited to see in game what you meant by Diplomacy is a ressource, it's sounds like a nice idea smiley: biggrin

vassal states sound interesting but they basically just sound like what Amplitude has set up for minor factions.

It would be interesting to be able to use the pirates too.

For example they attack you, but you pay them to attack one of your enemy, or to not attack you for 10 turns.

Then you will be able to create more units.

Pirates are great and I think we should have more possibility to act with them than only fight!

WE ARE NECROPHAGE! WE CARE NOT FOR UR WORDS! WE WILL DEVOUR YOOO!

XD Eeeeh, me aside, diplomacy is always a nice feature for 4X games, altough many of tried tackling it, its a hard thing to do well with the AI. Should the AI backstab? Should it be loyal even if it looses because of it? What benefits does the AI get?

Even if the devs will do whatever they can to put a good AI it will take time as the game has a lot of new features compared to usual 4x.

Well they said that the AI would be more focused upon specific events instead of random treaty spamming like in endless space. Perhaps there could be mutual defense packs, foreign aid (food, dust, military, science , etc.) or some other more costly (and hopefully) beneficial ways to establish friendly relations with the AI.
