Customising Heros (Renaming Units)

I am pretty sure judging by the videos I've seen so far that this feature hasn't been implemented. I would like to see a feature that allows for the customisation of existing Heros, and perhaps a feature that allows us to add completely new ones to the game world of Auriga? Editing their name, biography, stats and perhaps skills.



Secondly I love endless space, but there are two criticisms that bugged me. Firstly when modifying units they were renamed Hawk Fighter 2 or Hawk Fighter 3. It would have been nice to rename the newer model myself.



My other criticism was the lack of an option for a 'faction lock' on Heros, a toggle that if activated means you can only hire Heros that are of your chosen faction. I hated having no hissho Heros when playing as the hissho. I know Heros are technically mercenaries in the lore, but it prevented me from playing the game how I wanted it to play.

The hero faction thing has kind of bugged me, too - more so in ES because the other races literally hadn't been discovered yet, whereas in EL they are all on the same planet and thus more plausibly have interacted in the past.



Possible solution(s): since heros are unavailable until th appropriate tech is researched, and *very* expensive to hire we could have heros of the same race 1) available immediately and/or 2) less expensive to hire. 1) could make for interesting early game decisions (do I spend my dust on buyouts or save for a second hero?), while 2) would just make "local" heros more enticing (and I think it's a little more realistic). Both together might just be op.

I would prefer something not tied to the market for "local heroes".

Something akin to the heroic feats ? Like a unit of level 4 can lose a level and you get a hero of your race (you could do that 2 times in a game, no more).

Or something like that.

It is so irritating in ES, i've looked high and low for mods to solve the issue, but their is none. I just find myself restarting constantly till I have 2 or three of the same faction heroes, which is so tedious. It breaks the immersion for me having empires led by heroes from other factions smiley: frown



The other one, which I hope is just a temporary issue. Dredge 5... I'm crossing my fingers and toes that we can rename units when we upgrade them, instead of them just getting a digit for every upgrade

To be fair the empires in Endless Space are "led" by the leader of the race which is always of the same race. Heroes from other factions just occupy administrative positions.

It was just so immersion-breaking when heros from other races *from across the galaxy* showed up on turn 0!

I'm not necessarily against the idea of hero diversity! I just would like the choice to lock it if I feel like it. Theres nothing more annoying when playing as the Cravers, and having no frigging Craver Heroes... a faction that has no mind for diplomacy, that seeks to consume everything... but is led by a Human, a Sophon, a Pirate and a Plocynos name Burra Oo

Eh I'm whatever on the the other things, but man do I agree with you on the "add a number" for new units. It was acceptable (if less than ideal) in ES, but in a fantasy EL, having my new version unit be "Ranger 4" is totally silly to me.



I really hope at some point there can be some sort of auto-generated name thingy (so, stalkers for upgraded rangers) or at least a "please name this unit before saving it" prompt.

That would be good to have choice (I don't care about the name in fact, as you may have to find a lot of names for them).

I've checked, and you can't change the name of a template you edit it.

So at the moment, it's ThingyThing 2, Thingything 3, etc.

This will be really annoying, I will probs end up making new units from scratch so I can name them myself. The degit will drive me up the wall lol
