I know that when weapons are equip they are visually represented on the units. I was wondering if the same will be true of armour and shields later down the line...

If this is planned I will be absolutely smitten with EL, it would make the units visually awesome!!!

The problem is unless they are race specific armours then all races would look the same in the end.

I think they should be race specific. Especially when comparing completely different races to each other.

Yeah they probably would have to be race specific, but it would be awesome if it does get implemented. It's rare to see such a thing in X4 games, but it certainly would add to the immersion factor, which lets face it is very important considering that X4 is the grand daddy of immersion, it is the 'one-more turn' genre after all...

Would be lovely to kit your units out like something out of skyrim

You wouldn't even have to model every possibility for each race. Even just an unarmored, lightly armored and heavily armored version with and without shield would do it for me. This is more than a matter of making it visually pleasing. I like to be able to take in that sort of key info at a glance instead of having to refer to numbers somewhere.

Yeah, Elemental/Fallen Enchantress did individual 3D unit customization on the fly, including armor, and it was one of the neat things about that game. Of course, it was able to use the same armor assets for most models (almost all units were mostly-humanoid) so I can imagine that the implementation was easier.

From the radical differences in EL unit design, it seems like you would need a multiple different armor patterns for each sculpt, which could be quite a bit of work for what is essentially a cosmetic addition. Still, it could happen, and personally I'd love to see it down the road, if it can be done without sacrificing work on more significant game-design.

Some maths.

8 factions with different bodies.

4 units per faction, thus 32 different models. Add the 15 minor factions. 47 models.

4 or 5 tiers of armors/weapons/shields.

188 models to create. For armors.

How much time is needed to create/try/correct those models ?

I don't know if minor faction need armor models, since how are you going to pur armor on vinesnake smiley: biggrin haha that would be pretty funny. However, core faction unts MUST have armor models on them. Just my opinion. smiley: smile

I think some units should have limited armour slots, like the dredge would not have a body armour slot because they love being shirtless. It would limit some of the stronger units, not having as many item slots

But if you assimilate vinesakes, you'll be able to put armor on them ! So if you put armor representation for others, Vinesakes should also get the love.

Power to the vinesnakes !

Hum...

Sorry.
