Just ONE MORE UNIT... (for each faction)

I know all the arguments for keeping the number of units small. Makes factions more unique, makes minor villages more important, etc. I agree with all that. Too many units = every faction the same. I get that.

But just one more unit.

(well, one for each faction, so eight in all)

Right now, not counting settlers cause they don't count, each faction only has three units. JUST THREE.

All I'm asking for is turning that 3 into a 4.

And hey, I've even got some ideas for those units lined up:

for Wild Walkers: the War Sons

melee infantry

era 3

purpose: protecting rangers and shamen

some lore on them: As the woodland tribes grow into a nation of cities, new forces come to power in Wild Walker society. The War Sons are professional soldiers, children of this age of violence. In times of war they are fierce fighters and hardened campaigners. In times of peace they train and meditate, and attempt to have normal lives; but the din of battle is never forgotten, and their eyes are the hard eyes of warriors.

for Broken Lords: the Trebuchet

ranged

era 3

purpose: pounding enemies with long-rang fire; pretty much useless in melee

some lore: There are four aspects to the armies of the chivalrous, four pieces that make up the whole: the Stalwarts, loyal foot soldiers; the Ryders, unstoppable cavalry; the Bishops, holy men; and the Trebuchets, weapons of war. Set on treads and pulled by vampiric horses, the Trebuchet flings heavy stones, infused with enough Dust to explode in glimmering blue flames on contact.

for Vaulters: the Gliders

flying

era 4

purpose: flying overhead, dropping bombs on enemies

some lore: Equipped with harnesses of metallic wings and engines salvaged from the depths of the Vault, these men brave the skies to rain death on their people's enemies. Easily shot down and weak in combat, their only hope for survival is stay high in the sky, and keep dropping bombs till everything below is dead.

for Necrophages: the Soldiers

melee

era 3

purpose: heavy troops

some lore: Foragers forage, drones fly, the queens lay eggs. Soldiers fight. Larger than the lesser castes, with harder exoskeletons and more teeth, these creatures are deadly in most any fight. They can even wield crude weapons, in imitation of the other races; but do not mistake this for intelligence. The soldiers are born with only one destiny, and live and die with only one thought driving them on: to fight.

I don't think we really need another template..would be nice indeed, but don't think it's really needed..

However I agree, even with pretty nice customization..there are still few missing options..

I would love if Wild Walker's Rangers would be able to wield sword/spear, Vaulter's Titan would be able mount some heavy/siege ranged weapon or maybe even be equipped with some steam-punk style jetpack or something like that instead armor parts to make him flyable? smiley: smile In short..just give more options to some templates and we really don't need more units smiley: smile

I understand minor factions are here to fill the holes..but sometimes it's not possible..it's always good to have more options..even non-optimal ..and it's nice opportunity to give some units nice niche specializations smiley: smile

Yeah, honestly if we got some real melee Wild Walkers (and no, not the big tree guys), I'd be fine with not having the other stuff at release. But as a future update, DLC, someting...? (devs you there? smiley: wink )

I said a similar thing. The argument against it, is that it takes away for the strategic decision making when assimilating Minors. However I think theirs a major flaw in that side of the argument. From my personal experience I NEVER pick minors based on what units I've not got... normally my decision at least for me, is based upon the bonus effects those minors confer.

I'd like to see a fourth Major Faction unit, three does seem too few, but five or six would be unnecessary, and would just add a ton onto the development time of this game. What we'd be asking for is effectively 8 new units, which may not seem many, but time and resources would have to be spent to add them to the game. That being said I'm hopeful the devs will see the need/demand and include them at some point smiley: smile

Hum.. It "seems" other players could put templates on the market (at first there's only minor faction units) but the design choice is still in discussion between devs.

I would rather see more unit differentiation between what we already have - either more equipment customization or a more defined difference between unit models.

As it, I really don't feel any need to ever make more than 1 type of unit. Just give it either high attack or high defense, and roll over everything. Additionally, the +- 2 or 3 in each base stat between units quickly becomes unimportant with equipment bonuses.
