So I'm currently playing wildwalkers on hard against 6 AI, which includes every other faction except Ardent (excluding dlc cuz I missed the goddamn sale).

I'm on turn 123 so far, normal game with only slight tweaks for generation i.e more landmass. So far I am ahead of every other player in score except for the Drakken who has twice my score since turn 30 until now.

I have no clue which governors or techs are good to get and how frequently I should expand but after checking the score screen I notice the Drakken player's score is mostly from military and expansions. He does have 2 more cities over me and possibly bigger cities than mine but I somehow am making 3k dust per turn and have no idea what to spend it on. I have 3 cultist heroes governing my cities, not sure if its the most efficient.

here's a screenshot

It all feels unclear to me as to which techs I should get after era 3 or how many heroes I should be buying and how frequently I should be attacking, unlike when I'm playing necro, which is simply "Eat everything" or the RC which is "make lots of money and ♥♥♥♥ up the guys making more than you".

Drakken has a lot of life, so that counts heavily towards their score. Don´t worry about score.

For wonder victory, you want a Wild Walkers governor for the trait that reduces the Industry Cost of buildings. Cultists are great non-specific governors. If you want warfare, Necros are better, if you want dust, rc and bl are better, if you want industry, Wild Walkers are better, if you want Science, Ardent Mages are better, if you want influence, Drakken are better.

You want the buildings that increase your industry. There aren´t any on Era 3, but there are two important techs on era 4, so you might want to focus on science during era 3 to get there asap.

Science is generally important for Wonder victory, because you need to put your hands on 40 mithrite and 40 hyperium really quickly for the wonder, plus whatever you need for your quest (mithrite for Wild Walkers, hyperium for Allayi).

Whenever you have a lot of excess Dust and what matters to you is industry, the way to go is buying out units - the equivalent in industry will provide your governor with XP, which can be used to unlock the trait for +5%/+5%/+5% on FIDS or the winter immunity.

That said, how many governors should I get?

I'd say one per city ^^

They're really useful, and I sadly don't use them enough ...
