How do you build intensifiers?

I can't seem to build intensifiers.

I've researched the luxury intensifier. I have provinces with moonleaf and dye deposits, as well as 20 pearls stockpiled, and yet the intensifier option is grayed out. I've tried building them with and without extractors, as well with and without city districts placed on them.

Not sure what I'm missing here?

I guess you didn't research the research-tech needed for the demanded level of luxuries. There are some more luxury techs you have to research, than only one. For to get dye extractors you need tech area I - Open Pit Mines. For moonleaf extractors you need tech area III - Reaping Station.

I have both open pit mines and reaping station researched on this save, so it's not that.

Like I said, I have tried building intensifiers with extractors already built, and without.

My fault, sorry. Now I understand. The intensifiers work like districts. So you need to have the ressource close to your city center/districts, to build the intensifier (I guess you have the pearls, you need to build it). If built, it expands your city in that region like a district.

I hope it's understandable.

Yes intensifiers work like districts, contributing to others leveling up and possibly leveling up themselves. So plan in advance how you want to set up your city.

Ah ok! So in that case I would have to expand towards a resource or somehow destroy any districts lying on top of resources. Thanks.

That's poorly thought out, considering that the research is only available in the 3rd winter. Odd!

Well by that time, you probably can already see where the adamantium / palladium deposits are, so you can still plan for it, at least for new colonies.
