I don't think it's viable but I thought I'd ask anyway, is constantly churning out new cities the way to go in this game or can you be successful with a small amount or even 1 like in Civ V?

Cheers for any replies in advance.

Cultists are one city nation. Personally I tend to go for empire, but I had pretty good runs with 3-4 regions as Vaulters on +1 difficulty. On +2 I was obliterated by 400hp+ cultist cavalry though, but if I wasn't near them it could go pretty well too. smiley: smile

Right now Broken Lords are best with just a few cities in high dust concentrated areas. As they have to buy each population, its hard to spread around the dust required to fuel a wide empire for them.

ah well that's slightly reassuring smiley: biggrin

I haven't tried either of those factions yet and playing with a small amount of cities was one of my preferred routes on civ.

I might try cultists next run through and see how it feels. Upon briefly playing this and endless space I've felt overly pressured to colonize areas before everyone else can, nice to know there's factions where that isn't necessarily required.

Cheers peeps, I feel better smiley: smile

I prefere a single city to, or at least 2-3 max.

Thats a reason I started to play the cultists.... I absolutly love the ablity to raze other citys instantly....

My favorite faction, however, are the vaulters with enough strategic/holy resources you can keep up your buff permanently and expand without having to worry to much.

Last game I had two citys i build myself and always 5-6 others I captured and had to wait 5-8 turns before I could destroy them...

I hate having to wait this long... and also not beeing able to disbanden the settlers afterwards....

I prefer having an Empire with 1-3 Citys max and focusing on them...

Havent played the broken lords but maybe I should take a look at them too...

quasantbaby, are you asking about SP or MP? If SP, what difficulty?

Single city Drakken is the easiest Endless win I've had with a vanilla empire. Ideal settle has a ruin, river, anomalies, lots of production. Build a giant triangle, fill in your hero's governor skills, max level empire plans (except maybe economic), maintain alliances with everyone, late game compliment bomb for the win. That said, the Drakken can also spam cities and use their extra influence to maintain good empire plans and pick their wars. They are flexible.

Like Adventurer_Blitz said, the Broken Lords are punished for going wide. After the Cultists, they are the least flexible empire.

But wouldnt you benefit as a Draken player from more citys ? As they give you more resources ?

And how can u maintain peace with every other player, if they are hostile towards you ? Only works SP not MP right ?

The Drakken can force diplomatic states on other empires.

You'd pay a price for having more cities: empire plans would be more expensive, your best hero (and his +influence skill) would govern a smaller city with fewer districts, you would have to split your army to defend, early happiness issues, etc. I'm not saying single city Drakken is ideal for SP, just that it is viable on Endless difficulty.

For MP, I'd try a different single city strategy with the Drakken. I'd stay on one city until the quest to control 6 minor faction villages, max out the military empire plan, then start conquering. That might be less competitive than planting 2+ cities, but it seems doable.
