Hi,

I've tried playing as Ardent Mages, got to end game, researched all +pillar level techs and... they are less powerfull than in their description?

For example, the +food gets me +5 food per tile, instead of +maximum (12? 16?) and they still have 1 range, which seems weird (why would you show range next to each pillar if it's not increaseable).

Is it a bug? Or does pillar level depends on something else?

Please do not point me to the thread with the Arden Mages video tutorial. No way I'm spending 6h watching some dude play game in hope to find 1 useful piece of information.

Mages also get one upgarade via their quest line, which increases the level of all pillars by 2 (+effect and +1 range).

But: this revard is for one of their latest quests, and they are still not giving soo much dust/food/science per title. So yes, this might be typo in description.

Huh. Thanks for the info, I'm currently stuck at destroying 3 roaming armies quest, chasing after them over the ocean for the 3rd(!) winter. Hope to kill them soon, maybe finally my pillars will be closer to their description. I kinda feel rickrolled though.smiley: neutral

Your problem is probably that they are not touching city tiles. If they don't touch city tiles they don't give the described bonuses. I made the same mistake at first. If that's not what you are talking about showing an image might help.

I'm using them properly, they give described bonuses, the problem is the described bonuses are not as high as description suggests they could be. Like - the tech describes +food pillar as giving food in a range of 2 to 12(or 16, I forgot) depending on pillar level, but when I hover over pillar button the tooltip says +5 food per tile (and the fidsi yield increases by +5 food, I've checked).

Ok, I finally got those roaming armies and pushed storyline. Will all +bonus to pillars techs and after finishing the storyline, the pillars are finally as strong as promised. Shame I'm 10 turns after I won Scientific Victory though. smiley: smile

That's the Problems of the Pillars. They use their Worth fast cause you cant set them on City Tiles. Maybe they change it someday so you can cast them on atleast Lvl 2 Streets/City's. Only good on them is early game science, the Stun pillar for Fights. Sad that you need the Material for the story quest when i remember right.

I don't think that the pillars need a buff.

Especially if you have a long city layout (two rows), you can place several pillars. Even with range 1, each pillar provides its bonus on five tiles (two city tiles, three exploitation tiles).

With range 2 it's 12 tiles.

Several overlapping pillars applied to a city with many science buildings and a science hero is extremely powerful.
