It seems pretty straightforward but says "come back when conditions are met" whenever I click one of the ruins. At first I just had a long guardian go ahead and tag one ruin. Didn't work. Then I sent a hero with 6 unit army to get it. That didn't work either.

It sure would be nice to get rid of that penalty to strategic resources. Any help would be appreciated.

You may be running into problems with the wording. In addition to searching with a hero, you also need 20 of the specified resource. The message says "Gather 20 blahblah" but it really means "Spend 20 blahblah."

Ah ok. Yeah the wording was throwing me off. I thought it meant you could gather that specify resource from the ruins in order to stop the debuff. smiley: embarassement Thanks for clearing it up.

So..in order to complete this quest, I have to spend 20 of the resource how? I'm still confused how to get this quest done.

You go to a ruin while having at least 20 of the specified resource and search it. That should complete one part of the quest.

I've never found it worth completing. Unless you can split the cost with another player, which you can't with the AI. You spend 100 of a resource to get back 50 of the same resource plus 500 dust? I'd rather everyone just suck up the increased resource cost.

I'm not sure it's even worth splitting with another player. If you see someone else is in 1st place for most contributed, you're likely to not bother contributing the 5th and final one. Why spend the resources just so the first place guy can receive his reward? Better the both of you get hit equally with the cost penalty.

Yes, unfortunately, the risk/reward/cost/benifit is a bit skewed into the "meh, I don't care" range of the Big Graph of Gaming. Especially true with the current military mechanics. This quest's downside is only, really, a detriment to small empires that are losing troops, not large, established empires with armies already in place when the quest pops up. As such, the factions that are in the best position to make the 'problem' go away don't really care, and the factions that do care about it probably won't be caring that much longer because they're dying.

Maybe if it was scripted to happen earlier, interfered with BUILDING production, and increased maintenance costs for armies and cities. THAT would make it a viable disaster that needs to be taken care of it, and soon.

The AI would have to be capable of contributing too. I've never seen them contribute one bit.

Would be better if a penalty was added to the player(s) who contributed the least. There's an incentive to complete it if you've contributed the most to get your reward, and there's an incentive to complete it by only contributing once just so you can "pop" the negative effect on players who haven't contributed anything yet and screw them over.
