Abandoning / Dropping quests?

Is there a way to abandon a quest I have no intention of completing? For example, as cultists, once a minor faction asks me to destroy a village, I cannot bribe said village to pacify it, as it is now part of the quest. Or, sometimes, ruins are unexplorable because a quest asks me to bring a hero there. In both examples I would like to simply drop the quest, but I see no way of doing this.

Is this an oversight, by design, or have I failed to read the manual?

No, there isn't any way to remove specific quests - at least none that I'm aware of.

Do you (or another forum member) know why the devs don't allow to remove/cancel a specific quest?
