Hey guys and gals!

We often mention our team in terms of "Amplidudes and Amplidudettes", but we decided we should give you folks an idea of who we mean. You've guessed it, it's time for another installment of our (semi-)regular feature, Meet the Team! If you want to know more about us, or your nephew wants to learn more about the career path of a game developer, or if you're just curious, read on.

Meet burger gourmet, party planner and resident homonym Marina, aka Minak!

Who are you and what do you do at Amplitude?

Hey all, I am Marina, aka MinaK! (there's no need to check my G2G profile, it's about as active as my Steam account )

I am Junior HR Coordinator, so to keep it short, I take care of recruiting, trainee integration, training, pay processing, etc. for the Amplicrew! Another part of my job consists in organizing internal events, so that the whole crew gets together and get a chance to socialize outside of work! Previous endeavors include our winter break party, our ski seminar, and more recently our summer picnic. We have some more events in the pipe-line, such as the studiolympics, a studio-wide escape room, and more...

What were you doing before you joined Amplitude?

I joined Amplitude after completing my MBA in a business school, following an internship at Ubisoft where, among others, I helped recruit other interns and develop the internal brand at the headquarters in Paris.

When did you join the studio?

I arrived a little over a year ago, in June 2015.

What feature have you worked on that you're super proud of?

As the HR person at hand, my role is rather to assist production by recruiting qualified collaborators who mesh well with our studio culture.

Therefore, it's not a feature I'm super proud of, but rather of making sure production goes smoothly, with the required amount of personnel.

What are you currently working on?

Recruiting new members of staff! By the way, if you guys are interested, please check our job openings here.

As mentioned above, I'm also helping with training, onboarding the new folks, managing our contractors, and all the paperwork that goes with it!

What's your favorite game of all time?

First off I'd like to mention I haven't been recruited for my nerdiness (sorry about that)!

I would say that my all-time classic was in my younger years when I was playing The Sims (sorry not sorry!). I don't think I've ever spent more time in front of my computer, creating characters, building houses, and (especially) trying to make my character meet an untimely and creative end (notably the famed "swimming till you drown" or "dying in your own filth")

Is there anywhere on the Internet where I can see more of your stuff?

The only thing you could find that is related to me on the Internet are old track-and-field records, especially javelin throw... nothing games-related!

What's your favorite race or character in our games?

I would say the Ardent Mages, for their mystical side, and because they're harder than you might think!

Is there a funny story that happened to you at Amplitude?

Let's just say I almost missed my spot on the team because of my name! My manager is also named Marina, so there's two of us with the same first name, on the same team, that is also just the two of us!

Our pod is nowadays called the Marinas' Island, and some of our colleagues enjoy calling out "Marina!", waiting to see which one turns first... just because they're children in adult bodies.

What's your favorite junk food?

Burgers! Every single time I've had to choose between a salad and a burger, even by 35 degrees outside (95F), the burger came out on top.

Speaking of which, a Five Guys restaurant just opened recently not too far from the studio, hearing about the opening was one of the best days of my life!

What was your most memorable trip?

Machu Picchu, in Peru, where I went to in 2014! After climbing the veeeeeery numerous stairs, the scenery was... impressive, majestic, overwhelming! I stayed for hours, just taking it all in and snapping pictures.

That's it for Marina! We hope you found this interesting. Comments or additional questions, feel free to comment!

If there's a question you would like us to ask the interviewees, let us know!

No lie, I read "Trainee Interrogation" and was caught off guard. Once reread I was more than just relieved, and maybe a slight essence of disappointment. Haha. Welcome, I cannot wait to see how well you affect the company, and help keep the company on it's feet!
