A pirate's life for me!

Hey everyone,

We often get requests for some more material to dive into the Endless Universe outside of the games. Something to keep immersing oneself into the lives of heroes and villains, as a hero holding a standard or a fly on the wall... So we listened and thought real hard about vignettes that could capture the spirit of each civilization in Endless Space 2. Comics seemed a great material to convey an atmosphere, and we hope you like these. In this fifth installment in our series, set far from the traveled roads, a band of gentlemen of fortune bite more than they can chew.

Jeremy, our favorite hired gun when it comes to narrative firepower, had a few comments on the creation of the comic:

The Cravers were an interesting one to tackle. As one of our most established—and yet still fairly impenetrable—factions, we faced some curious challenges in how to portray them in comic form. What goes on inside the mind of the hive? What stories could we really tell to capture the sheer overwhelming presence of the swarm, a force that consumes worlds?

After several trips back to the literal drawing board, we decided to go smaller rather than bigger, sketching out a little vignette about everyone's favorite bug-like faction through the eyes of innocence. In The Raid, our viewpoint characters aren't battle-hardened commanders or steely marines: they're outcasts, just eking out a dubious existence on the fringes of society. When the Cravers come, though, they don't care if you're a well-armed battalion... or just a kid with a gun.

Ever have a massive fleet attacked by pirates and wonder what happened in their lives that led them up to this stupendously foolish moment? Maybe after this comic you'll have a bit more sympathy for the little guy.

The Cravers comic opens our second series. We hope you liked it! If you have any questions or comments, you can shoot them in this thread at Arkel, who leads the project. And if you want to learn more about our comics, you can rewatch our comics livestream on Youtube!

Great comic. I think off all the ones it works best, it really shows well just how scary the Cravers really are. Kudos, I hate Cravers now!

Pretty cool comic, although the Cravers come off as a bit overpowered.

Yeah a single worker (not even a soldier) killed and discuartized over 30 armed men , ignoring bullets ,i guess that the 10% hp bonus makes a good difference :p.

Fav comic so far simple yet powerful it captures the fear aura the cravers transmit , and that craver drone was pretty badass.

Good comic but like others said the Craver came off a bit too buffed. If the worker would've done a surprise attack inside the ship or something it'd felt more realistic but wiping out a fully armed and prepared raid in broad daylight and open ground was a bit much. The pirates were familiar with Cravers as well so they knew what they were up against (or at least the Lumeri guy).

Enjoyable piece in any case. These comics really give a nice touch to the Endless universe.

Special praise to Yoon Seong Park & Max Raynor for capturing the color theme. It's one of my favourite things visually in these.

Oh, and I really enjoy the grim, dark theme that's typically portrayed in these comics. Cold cruel galaxy gives a mature, realistic feel to the universe.

To be fair the cravers are supposed to be a super weapon designed by an ancient and super advanced race, so being that powerful makes sense or at least is justifcable.

Personally i love the cravers so these panels will guide my imagination and make my ground battles far more immersive now that i know that they are super badass killing machines capable of soloing platoons of armed soldiers.

I hope we see more grimdarkness in the setting not as much as 40k sincebi feel is a bit exaggerated but yes i agree with your statement.

while i enjoyed the comic i would have one problem with it, there is not enough information or characterization of the cravers in it. Thats my opinion, but i feel it is justified in the fact that the comic is more on the impact of the cravers on other species, no so much on the cravers themselves.
