Hey everyone,
We're back with another Meet the Team! Take a peek inside the studio, learn more about the many careers and paths that led our collaborators to join Amplitude!
If you want to know more about us, or your niece wants to learn more about the career path of a game developer, or if you're just curious, read on.
Meet the gentle giant with a terrifying pokerface, meet Eric, aka ...Eric!
Who are you and what is your job at Amplitude?
Hello, my name is Eric, I have been working as Technical Director in Amplitude Studios since the company was founded back in 2011.
More specifically I worked as Lead Programmer on Endless Space and Endless Legend, while I remained involved in our other titles Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Space 2.
What were you doing before you joined the studio?
I have been working in the gaming industry since 1999; for other French companies like Montecristo Games, MKO and Ubisoft, developing games for the PC and consoles such as the Playstation 2 and the Playstation Portable.
What do you like the most at Amplitude?
I like the company being small (read: human-sized) and led by a team of experienced professionals.
I also like Amplitude Studios for stretching its focus between product quality and care of both its customers and employees.
What have you worked on that you're super proud of?
Looking back over my past experiences, the one thing I am pretty proud of is the fact that – except very few exceptions – every project I have been working on has been released.
What are you currently working on?
I am working on a new strategy game that is “to be announced”, leading experienced staff of Amplitude’s as well as new collaborators, to build our most ambitious game to date…
What's your favorite game of all time?
I have always been a big fan of Id Software’s First Person Shooters, with preferences and countless hours spent on “classic” DOOM and Quake III. I like those games for being fast-paced, easy to learn yet harder to master.
What’s the game you dream of creating?
I’d love writing a 2D platformer in the likes of Another World or Flashback, or working on a third iteration of the game BAT, mixing RPG elements, action and simulation.
Is there anywhere on the Internet where I can see more of your stuff?
I am not on social medias and whatnot…
Here’s my linked-in profile, nothing fancy: https://www.linkedin.com/in/audinet/
What's your favorite race or character in our games?
Tough question; I would think I have no true favorite faction, because I like to edit custom ones.
But I do tend to play the United Empire faction in Endless Space and the Ardent Mages in Endless Legend.
Is there a funny story that happened to you at Amplitude?
Nope; none I would be aware of. ^_^
(NdE: actually, Eric was tangentially involved in some ski chairlift antics with Simon)
If you could relocate the studio in any country, where would you want to go?
I would gladly go back to Canada!
I have spent one year in Toronto and its area and I still have very pleasant memories of the places I visited and the people I met; I would definitely relocate there.
Montreal would also be candidate of choice.
That's it for Eric! We hope you found this interesting. Comments or additional questions, feel free to comment!
