The final countdown

Hey everyone,

We often get requests for some more material to dive into the Endless Universe outside of the games. Something to keep immersing oneself into the lives of heroes and villains, as a hero holding a standard or a fly on the wall... So we listened and thought real hard about vignettes that could capture the spirit of each civilization in Endless Space 2. Comics seemed a great material to convey an atmosphere, and we hope you like these. In this sixth installment in our series, set on a moon that isn't long for this world, a retired scientist pays her former workplace one last visit.

Jeremy, who wrote the script for the Cravers comic, wanted to add these comments:

We had a lot of fun thinking about the Sophons. With a faction so rich in personality and Endless Space history, we were a bit spoiled for choice: which aspects did we want to explore most? The glorious thing about the Sophons is that every kind of story seems possible with them: an adventure story, a murder mystery, a slapstick comedy, a philosophical monologue.

We went back and forth on story ideas for a long time, finally settling on a quiet little tale that we hope sheds some light on some of the important events leading up to Endless Space 2, while showcasing the aspect of the Sophons we love most: their ability to genius themselves into the worst situations imaginable.

If Indiana Jones was a motherly old discredited Sophon pensioner strolling across the surface of a top secret moon base, and that moon base was about to explode, we imagine it might go something like this.

We hope you enjoy this story! If you have any questions or comments, you can shoot them in this thread at Arkel, who leads the project. And if you want to learn more about our comics, you can rewatch our comics livestream on Youtube!

That's Sophons for ya!

That said, do moons work like that?

If not, Sophons can make them work like that. I mean why have a giant secret lab-sized spaceicle spacecelleator when you can turn the inside of the moon into one?

Wow, just wow!! This just gets better and better. I saw the blog post notice and followed to see that we get comics as well as art books :-o shocked. Many thanks!! I've downloaded them all, and starting from the beginning and after the first I just wanted to say thank you, I'll read the lot but I'm off out! But listening to the OST and reading a comic was great fun.

Maybe this character will become the main one in the third part of the game? Especially if he studies firsthand all the other nations. :-)

A friend I introduced ES2 to over the free weekend fell in love with the Sophons. In general, she was really impressed in other ways too, like how ES2 doesn't promote a sense of fantastic racism a lot of high fantasy or science fantasy tends to.  (it's very subtle and a big digression for me to potentially go off on, so take my word on that for now that we feel that ES2 promotes progressive ideals)

But they REALLY loved the idea of a faction that wasn't into war but loved chasing technology for research's own sake. A race that would, I dunno, fistbump a craver who is being a total bro because they're reckless and openminded in equal measure.

And now I get to tell them the Sophon comic is up. :D
