He is possibly the smiliest person in the office, meet Mathias, aka Barmat!
Who are you and what is your job at Amplitude?
Yo! I'm Mathias, Lead Artist at Amplitude. My job is a mix between artistic and technical tasks. I do 3D, I make textures, and when I can, I make special effects!
I work with the artists, the designers, and the programmers to make things as beautiful and optimized as possible!
What were you doing before you joined the studio?
Before joining, I worked in other studios, on very different and varied projects, such as kids games, FPSes, RPGs...
The games weren't all amazing, but always fun to work on.
What do you like the most at Amplitude?
The people, the projects, the atmosphere, the ambition and... the free cookies! :)
What have you worked on that you're super proud of?
Endless Legend, Endless Space 1&2, Bet On Soldier and since I take myself very seriously, The Cursed Crusade and Noddy & the Magic Book.
What are you currently working on?
At the moment, I'm working on the prototype of Amplitude's next game, but it's a super top secret, and if I say anything more, Skamaks will probably put a gag on me...
Well, he might not be paying attention, so: the game ARGGHL HELP HE' AHMH MHMHM OOOF HOOO
What's your favorite game of all time?
There are two, one that rocks and the other that is a little less glamorous:
Starcraft & Fifa! ^^
I like the strategic aspect, the competition, the mechanical skill involved, the adrenalin, the mind games, and the fun!
What’s the game you dream of creating?
That's annoying, I never remember my dreams ^^
There are too many: a pirate game, a strategy/fps mix like Natural Selection, a GTA-like in space, an Endless shoot'em up!!

My portfolio is sooo outdated, I'm sorry I don't have much:

I need to make nice pictures of what I've created on Legend, Space 2, but self-promotion is a lot of work! ^^

... but I like Vaulters too. ^^
Is there a funny story that happened to you at Amplitude?
In 6 years, I've had my fill! The first thing I come to mind is that I've always got 4 or 5 chewing-gum boxes on my desk, so I'm kind of the official fresh breath sponsor for Amplitude!
What's your favorite quote?
"Everything has an end, except bananas which have two."
What are your hobbies in life?
It's not very original, but...
Video games in general; sports when it's about running after a ball: tennis, we often play with Steve (StoryEngine)! Football/soccer (with Skamaks & Lim943!); raclette except during summer, spicy food all year-long; following industry gossip... that's enough for now! xoxo
