Polishing Endless Space 2: The First Patch

Hello everybody



We are excited to announce today that we are releasing the first in a series of patches for Endless Space 2, and in this first patch we will address several issues reported by ardent members of our community — to mention a few examples; the AI should no longer demand tribute when trying to surrender, Riftborn can once again use Hyperium to accelerate colonies, and laws rewarded by quests will now properly show in the senate screen.


Having such a passionate community who cares so deeply about the games we make, that is something we are truly grateful for — we are glad that so many of you have decided to stick with us and Endless Space 2 despite the issues that have been affecting the game ever since the release of the Awakening expansion.

Tackling these issues is of high importance to us, but we have unfortunately not been able to do so as quickly as we would have liked to, and we apologize for that.

But rest assured that we do want Endless Space 2 to be the best game that it can be, and as such we have enlisted the help of Clumsy Dwarf, who have been working together with us since the development of Awakening (and Symbiosis and Inferno for Endless Legend before that) — Clumsy Dwarf is a newly formed studio made up of people who previously worked at NGD, and we’re happy to have them return to help us in our endeavor to improve and polish Endless Space 2.


There are many more fixes in the pipeline, and some of the ones we are working on aim to resolve some issues with the Umbral Choir and fixing several quests — more information on the next patch will come soon, but until then, you can find a complete overview of today’s patch notes here.

I really hope to see the custom race options get some polishing.

Like the Riftborn Issue.

Selecting Riftborn Visual with non Riftborn Affinity causes many sterile requiring techs to appear.

But unless a player selects Riftborn Affinity they can only terraform to fertile.


I enjoy the game most playing my favorite custom faction of Genesplicing Riftborn.

This has always been a huge thorn in my custom race.



Have the Devs ever thought about setting a Kickstarter to help fund polishing?


Players who donate for fluff stuff, new skins for ships, heroes, and planets, new heroes, and etc.

Nothing that requires major programming.


The programmers can focus on the polishing which would be released to all.

The artists can focus on the rewards which can be released to the donators right away and be available after a year to new buyers.

This is great news! I'm just returning to the game after a little break. I'm glad this game is still getting some love.

You can see some examples here, here and here that I've helped fix. If you search for it this has come up many times. It's some kind of issue with Unity, and it seems to be the most common bug reported these days. I suspect it isn't an actual problem with the Endless games themselves, however since it comes up so often even just having a more helpful error message could help a lot of users who don't think to come to the forums. I expect that for every person who's taken the effort to seek help with the issue here there's ten more that just gave up.

How is Unity related to running ES2 anyway? ES2 is not a Unity game, or is it??

ok, it is indeed a Unity game, sorry. Just googled it.

Somehow I was under the impression ES2 had been developed using some other engine. Nevermind.

As mentioned in the blog, we're working on more bugfixes. We're hoping to release the next patch within about a month or two, but I don't have any clear estimate yet nor any guess which issues will be next to be fixed.

Just to add to what @The-Cat-o-Nine-Tales mentioned above, there are other patches in the pipeline with more bugfixes. Not all fixes and improvements are locked down yet, which is why we can't provide exact ETAs on patches and their content. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the patch, I'm happy to see some polishing on endless space 2, I really like the game !

Do you consider some balancing changes? For instance, I feel like the academic fleet is way too powered in early game and should scale against the player having the best fleet.
