The Path (Pathogenum Bestiola)

A race of sentient entomopathogenic fungi that have ‘peacefully’ taken control of the more advanced, dominant race of insectoids on their home world. Using them as hosts for thousands of years, and obtaining all of their scientific knowledge, they took to the stars in search of more hosts. 

Living in a highly theocratic society they have developed an interesting set of beliefs. Believing they have been put in the universe to spread their pantheon, which to them means infesting other species.  They seek out other races to diplomatically parasitise (as war comes with a heavy price; damaging good hosts). This process is largely hidden from their new found ‘friends’, and as such, they are a peaceful race.

To an outsider they appear as a race of insectoids, as the fungus is not visible. When another race has been infested, the only visible change is likely a divergence in personality or interests. With many infested individuals moving to Path worlds to act as traders or sociologists.

Government

Theocratic Republic of Pathogenum. Or more simply, The Republic of Path.

The Path are advised (not ruled) by a religious council of elders, who supervise both religious matters, and the democratic process. The council has a Revered Elder at the head, and Council Elders beneath him. The Revered Elder is voted for among the Council Elders, and the Council Elders are voted in by the general population.

Home World

Name: Oidea.

Climate: Tropical climate.

Atmosphere: High nitrogen-oxygen based.

Most landmasses are covered in thick vegetation. Seasons cycle between dry periods and spans of powerful precipitation.

Gameplay Features

Faction Affinity: Diplomatic Dependency. 

When in an alliance, get an % increase FIDSI  on population. If at war however, get a slight % decrease.

Each time a new trade deal is agreed on gain some science and dust (reflecting new hosts becoming traders and scientists).
