The Titans

We are by the remnants of a once proud people. Broken. Dying.

The titants were a once proud race of warriors and diplomats. They were proud of their culture, proud of their technology, proud of their warriors and their reputation in the galaxy. But this was long ago. Their pride was their downfall and now only few titans remain and nearly everything of their empire is lost. Their spirit is broken and most titans are only waiting for their death. It is for the few that have not given in to hopelesness to reignite the fire in their brethren. Will these few young titans be enough to save their people? Can they reclaim the lost technology of the titans and rebuild the empire? In the old times the titans effectively worshipped their heroes and thus the task of the hopeful few is clear. They have to become heroes like in the ancient times. They have to show all the races in the galaxy that the titans will be strong again.

All in all this faction needs good diplomatic relations desperately. Their overall power scales a lot with their dealings with different empires without them being unable to enter a war. The titans will need to deal with different species as much as possible to improve their own FIDS. This will create a slow start that leads into an awaking behemoth.

Reclaim our Reputation

The titans gain an approval   bonus based their diplomatic actions. Each agreement gives them an approval   bonus for its duration and each deal gives them a temporary approval buff. These bonuses should be much lower for minor factions.

e.g. scale with other empires size

Broken Spirit

Because of the depressive general population the titans have a permanent approval  malus on all their planets. This can only be remedied by a unique administrator skill or a high level administrator.

This should create the main appeal together with Reclaim or Reputation. The titans need good relations with other empires as soon as possible to counter this malus.

Waiting for Death

Most titans lack the motivation to reclaim what they lost. Their research speed scales with their approval, meaning they only earn science  at full speed with the highest approval  rating and can't generate science  with low approval . The strength of their ground forces also scales in this manner. Other things could also scale with approval, depending on what works in the end.

For the Empire

If the titan empire is able to reclaim a part of their lost glory it will envigorate all of them, regardless of their personal situation. The effective approval of each titan world is the average of its actual approval and the empire wide approval.

This allows them to settle on bad planets relatively early in the game. On the other hand this prevents highly developed "core worlds" that have a high approval regardless of the situation of the empire.

Remnants

The titans don't actually need to research most of the technology. Their society is ancient and they just have to reclaim their understanding of it. Studying the designs of your own people is much easier than inventing everything from scratch. This gives the titan empire a percentaged science  bonus.

Together with Waiting for Death this will lead to a slow technological start while still being able to catch up and even overtake other non science oriented empires.

Hero Worship

The titans start with a hero that tries to lead them into a bright future. All hero bonuses to fleets and ground forces are amplified. If a fleet or ground force does have any hero they get a malus.

If every faction starts with a hero they gain a more powerful one or two heroes instead.

Awesome. I love it. Well fleshed out, you put a lot of thought into it. The traits work well together, and have good synergy. The focus on approval and making it shared empire-wide, while having other mechanics based on it makes this idea unique. I have a couple questions though:

  • In the lore you say their pride was their downfall. Can you be more specific? Was there a civil war? War with other species? They stopped reproducing? What caused their destruction?
  • What incentive do other empires have for making diplomatic deals with them? Seems to me they could greatly cripple the Titans by just ignoring their offers. There are lots of good ideas for doing this so far in the forums. For instance, in my submission, increased influence leads to stronger diplomatic demands, which can be avoided by joining in an alliance.

Cool stuff, keep it up.
