The Hydarians

"Together, our goals will be achieved."

LORE WITH OVER 200 WORDS

"When the first of the Hydarians were born, the first thing they felt was not the hard shell of their eggs nor the wailing of the gigantic automaton that stood tall on top of their nest. Instead, the thoughts and desires of every other Hydarians enveloped them. The first few days were pure madness. Pain. Hunger. Curiosity. All was chaos. But the fate of the Hydarians was not meant to end so soon. A single voice projected through all other, silencing all of them. The voice spoke with great vigor yet at the same time was calm and even caring. It taught the Hydarians how to survive, it taught them how to learn, it taught them how  to live in unity. With the help of the "Voice" the Hydarians prospered. However, all good things were not meant to last.

At the eve of the new year, as the Hydarians were planning to celebrate the being that had always been with them in their times of need the Voice was silent.  The Hydarians were confused, was it a new lesson for all of them to learn? The sun eventually gave away to the moon, yet the Voice was not heard. Some of the Hydarians panicked, their doubts echoing through one another.  Disunity appeared to reign once again. But the Voice had thought of this calamity and had taught one Hydari to be stronger, wiser, and greater than the rest. With a voice as strong as their beloved mentor, he silenced all Hydarians and proclaimed what has happened. There were no doubts, all was quiet. He continued, he promised that he'll lead the Hydarians to even greater glory. Doubt started to form once again,  but the lone Hydari would not stop. With even greater magnitude he silenced them all again and spurned their skepticism. The Hydarians now have a new leader.  Progress started to seek out on what happened to the Voice, efficiency was key.  As years went on and the Hydarians managed to built machines that will allow them to transverse and conquer the stars. Decades since the Voice was silenced, but the Hydarians are determined to find their mentor as their mentor have found them. "

LORE WITH 200 WORDS

"The first thing a newborn felt was not the cold embrace winter's everlasting chill nor the chorus of the grinding machinery above them. Instead, the thoughts and desires of every Hydarians enveloped them. Instead of going mad from the flood of new information the newborn Hydarians learned immensely from each other.  They developed within a year and without the need of complex algorithms or technology, they move in unity and assist each other. Though it would seem the Hydarians were a hivemind, each Hydari have their own opinions which are often similiar with one another. However, instead of debating which beliefs was the most prominent they existed in unity with one another. As they flourished on the land given to them by a once-alive being known as the "Voice" the supreme leader, the one chosen to select what would be the best decision for the entire populace announced that machines have been created that allows the Hydarians to transverse and expand to the stars. Questions and doubts all started to form. However, the supreme leader announced one more proposition. Although the Voice have long been forgotten to most Hydarians he announced that the Hydarians will find it once again as the Voice was the original benefactor that allowed the Hydarians to flourish. More questions formed, and even more doubts echoed through one other. However, the decision was made and the Hydarians were nevertheless determined to accomplish their goal."

GAMEPLAY

Because of how every Hydarians are neurally linked with each other (Think of the Protoss from Starcraft), approval is a very important factor in the faction. With a high approval, the Hydarians receive a very high bonus to their production and small bonuses to science and food. But with a low approval, the bonuses will drop or will even turn into negatives. Other actions also influence approval and give small buffs or debuffs. For example, losing a space battle will cause approval to drop but give a combat buff. However, actions like these do not last for very long so that the faction would be less "spontaneous". Another thing I would like to implement is the addition of a "era". For example, let's say that the the Hydarians in a span of 10 years and creating a lot of science and developed a lot of technologies. Because of this, the faction will enter a era that'll boost science production. However, if the Hydarians are in war and losing a lot of ships and systems, they will enter a "depression" era that will give large debuffs to the faction. However, the era could be broken by winning back a large number of planets or winning a un-even space battle for example. Basically, the Hydarians either excel hard or fail horribly.

SPECIAL TECHNOLOGY

I wanted to expand on the concept of "neural linking". What I want to do is, eventually the Hydarians will be able to research and unlock the ability to share their ability to have their thoughts shared to one another. This technology can be traded or gifted to another faction and it's up for the faction to use it or not. If the faction uses it, every one of them will be linked to each other and the Hydarians. If the faction does that, they'll adopt similar mechanics from the Hydarians and will gain or lose approval/buffs if they help or attack the Hydarians.

.

I wish I have more time to write on the Hydarians, didn't notice that there was a competition going on and had to rush things. So, how is my proposition?

A good submission, but you'll need to edit for this to qualify. You are way of the 200 word count for the lore/biography.

Keep it up though!

Wait, there's a limit to the lore? Say what now?!

But thanks. Really appreciated your comment.

Yup. From the rules thread:

YOUR SUBMISSION MUST HAVE

  • A name (either a tentative faction name or a concept "space ninja diplomats").
  • A description of their unique gameplay. From the faction affinity that makes you go "oooh that's what they do" to the population bonus, tell us how you think they should be played and what makes them cool.
  • A description or biography of the faction, in under 200 words. Don't include relationships to known factions.

Damn. Wish me luck, gonna make up a new bio that'll be able to fit into the rules. Let's hope the devs don't mind cheeky propositions. :p

I must thank you for your kind support though. Edited it now, hopefully it'll be allowed.
