An entity formed not out of matter, but of collective unconsciousness. As the civilisations grew more and more powerful they began to distrust one another giving rise to many an internal conflict including their eventual splintering and waning. Soon their paranoia towards one another took shape looming hidden among the stars, a nebula of thoughts and echoes. Few knew of its existence, but those who did brought down the hammer of technological advances and harnessed it to their own ends. Information began cropping up where previously thought impossible, with such accuracy that it caused many to doubt its reliability. However, those in power, those with boundless greed became quick to trust. The collective paranoia held all the thoughts that gave way to worry, all those that facilitated anxiety, and all of those could now be read by a select few. These few became powerful all knowing mediums, they could find the weakest points in security systems, flaws and corruptions in governments but also, loopholes and exploits to capitalise on. These forerunners in their infinite greed became reliant on this unconsciousness to stamp out their internal strife, to unite their civilisation once and for all, but those who wielded this power became irredeemable in their actions. Governments rose and fell day by day, chaos came and went at the blink of an eye. The worries of the people, their paranoia ebbed and flowed moment to moment. And at the crux of it all, the unconscious collective animated becoming alive, it took on a life of its own. Information relayed to mediums started becoming muddied, no longer pure and precise but manipulative half truths, fueled by a far more sinister agenda. The fall came all too soon, governments tore at each other, anarchy erupted in earnest, none could be said to profit, none could be said to gain. All fell prey to its devices. Yet it continued, blinded by their greed the forerunners continued to rely on these mediums assuming with each passing day that "truths" provided by these mediums would lead to their eventual salvation as it had once done. They had not counted on the nebula taking on life let alone artifice, deceiving all those whom they had placed their trust. The nebula grew in size and intensity with the fall of each civilisation. As it fed off of anxiety and doubt it grew larger and larger and after a torturous eternity vanished, dispersed to the cosmos. Mediums could now only hear echoes of truths, rumors among the stars, no longer could the forerunners exploit them, they had become something far greater, far more eternal than even the endless ever could be. Soon those forerunners crumbled to dust feeding into streams of rumours and echoes. Eons have passed since and word of new dust rich nebulas began to spread among younger civilisations, those who would now come to doubt, those who would now face paranoia themselves. Those that would become victims to its artifice, destined to crumble to dust as their forerunner had, those who fell victim to an ancient and sinister deceit all those ages past.

Welp, just a short story. Tl;dr: Trusting in doubt is a bad idea. Especially when the doubt takes a life of its own and strangleholds your civilisation to feed itself. The name could just be shortened to The Paranoia or The Artifice to be honest, but combining the two has a nice ring to it I think. Anyways, that's my entry and 2 cents on possible lore. o7

Never hurts to toss out ideas ;^)
Besides, gotta give some method to the madness of naming something. Ah, true enough though, seems to fall more under the endless sorta origin rather than the ancient one.
