Summary / Title

While trying to attack another AI, the AI can end up attacking your Fleet despite being at peace with you

Description

This is the situation in the example provided (see attached screenshots/saves)

The Sophons are at peace with me and we have good/friendly relations.

The Sophons are at war with the Vodyani (I'm also at war with them).

They just send a fleet to attack a Vodyani system/Ark.

I have a Scout parked in that system.

When the Sophons arrive and attack they somehow end up in battle with my scout rather than the Vodyani (Despite us having peace and no declaration of war).

Relationship's still seem to be peaceful afterwards. Its like both sides pretend it didnt happen.. :3

[This happend to me before in the same game with the Unfallen fighting the Riftborn. My work around was to load the autosave from one turn earlier and move the scout away]

Steps to Reproduce

1. Park a Fleet in a System of an AI that is about to be attacked by another AI (you are at peace with)

Reproducibility

5/5

Expected Behavior

- It should not be possible for the AI to suddenly attack a friendly fleet without declaration of war

- The AI should attack the Fleet of the Faction its actually at war with/trying to fight

Version

V. 1.0.52 S5 gold public

Also playing with the "Range Realigment Mod" but the only thing it changes it is the effective Range of the weapons. Its unlikely effecting the bug in any way.

But just in case and to be able to load the saves:

Mod: RRM.zip

Notes

This is what I imagine whats happening in the background:

  1. After arriving in the system the AI chooses attack because it detected an enemy fleet.
  2. It can choose from a list of fleets to attack.
  3. The list shows ALL fleets including friendlys and not just fleets of (cold)war enemys.
  4. It just chooses the first entry (which happens to be the player) and attacks that fleet.
  5. There is no check if that action should be possible at this point so the battle commences.

peace_yet_sophons_attack.zip (turn 99)

Screenshots:

One turn before the Sophon fleet [orange] arrives in the Bryia system where my scout [dark green] is parked.

Diplo relations:

Interestingly enough from the perspective of the Sophons it shows "?" instead of the peace symbol towards me :3

One turn later...

If the scout is not moved the Sophons attack ==>

Diplo still shows peace even after it got destroyed.

Addition:

I was later allied with the sophons in the same game and I could attack their fleets. I destroyed one of their civilian transport this way oO

I really wanted to send my fleets and help them in the war against the riftborn but I feared our allied fleets would end up attacking each other..

>.<

Has anybody else encountered this?
