Game Rapidly Approaching Unplayable / Huge Performance Degradation

Long game, turn 293.  Everything accross the board in the UI is a struggle.  Things are extremely clunky, graphics at times jittery and chugging, camera difficult to move without stuttering, and using all UI elements are difficult at best.  You often have to click things multiple times to get them to execute.  Doing a manual save will sometimes fail.  Most frustrating of all, there will often be a screen that freezes in the foreground, such as the election screen, leaving you no choice but to terminate the task and reload the game and save.

When you reload the last auto-save, new diplomacy screens pop up, almost as if they were stuck in limbo and suddenly got unstuck.  Ships also move around differently than they originally did before you terminated.

The game will also frequently freeze up solid by simply clicking one of the navigation buttons in the top left.

The problem manifests over time (turns).  This degradation of performance compounds as the game progresses.

From all reasonable perspectives as a player, the game is unplayable in it's current state.  I hope your team is putting full effort into a speedy and high quality fix for these issues.  Shame on you!

Attached are my dxdiag and a save file, to remove any suggestion of client side issues.

edit and side note for a separate issue:  I have set the game music to 0%, but it still plays an ambient music.  Super annoying.

Hello :)

Optimization is a constant uphill battle but we are not giving up!!

We'll be continuously working on improving performances through the life of the game, so expect it to get better!

Cheers,

Yep same here...made it to turn 405 this time, but now its ridiculous unplayable performance like.

My first 10 - 15 tries to play this game failed hard due to either...

1. not being able to load save games...

2. end turn bug hits me on several games after different turns...

3. battles not ending...

etc...

now the performance on a I5 6600K / 16GB RAM / GTX 980

sucks so hard that I think I play on a P90 from years ago.

Programming guys what machines do you have for to make such a game not playable performance like on medium to high end machines? Or did you even played your own game after turn...let me say it started to get unplayable at turn 300+

I have the same problems, it's noticeable even on turn 170. ATM I have no savegame but I try to produce one again.

The next patch notes are encouraging.

Optimization aside, I wonder if this game is multi-threaded?

There's no way around the lag right now.

The game has a memory leak.

It will even lag for several seconds while zooming in/out of planets on the System view. It will begin to lag at switching screens (menu top left). For example, between income and tech screens. It will begin to lag on simple things like tech selection, etc.

The only way to stop the lag is to restart the game and reload a save.

This just screams "memory leak".

Even this doesnt work. I lay the game aside now and wait half a year until, at least I hope for, until many issues are fixed. This game is full with bugs...performance sucks, etc...

So unplayable and not really enjoyable.

Yes.  You are right. This "memory leak" was reported back in '16 - a year ago when people were playing it in Early Access.

This is definitely an unresolved issue and has been for some time.

I have 32 GB onboard and other people have more powerful CPU's and even more memory.

It's not us. It's the game.

This game might be playable in 6 months or a year from now but right now, as it is, it's a steaming hot mess..
