AI keeps choosing only short ranged weapons in their ships.

As the title says the AI keeps choosing only short ranged weapons in their ships. It's late in my game after fighting a couple dozen battles I just started checking all the race's ships and they are all choosing short ranged energy weapons for all their ships in every class. Anyone else seeing this?

you will need to report the bugs properly. look at the stickied thread.


If you are playing 1.0.11 this is not happening to me.

Hello, 


As Xeryx says, a more complete report is always welcome and helpful for us!

Also keep in mind the AI tends to make choices it considers efficient against enemy configurations - so it is possible it's considering beams to be a counter to its enemies' fleets.
A save would be appreciated to assess the situation on our end :)

I'll provide you with some saves of these configurations, no problem.


One point though - it's no good if the AI makes ridiculous sub-optimal compositions that it then optimises against in equally ridiculous fashion (e.g. all beam fleets countered by all missile fleets!). A human player is never going to find either suboptimal configuration at all challenging given the range options in the battle cards.

Sure, no problem here you go:


  • Summary / Title: AI KEEPS CHOOSING ONLY SHORT RANGED WEAPONS IN THEIR SHIPS.
  • Description: AI keeps choosing only short ranged beam weapons in their ships. 
  • Steps to Reproduce: Don't know but I did start noticing it early on in the game.
  • Reproducibility: 5/5
  • Expected Behavior: The AI would choose other weapon systems for other ranges and/or adapt to encountered ememy loadouts. After losing a dozen battles without dealing any damage you'd think they would adjust.
  • Version: 1.0.11
  • Notes: It's late in my game and after fighting a couple dozen battles with my neighbors only having short ranged beam weapons I sent a ship throughout the galaxy and found that the AI is doing the same for all the race's ships in every size class.

Just finished my Craver conquest game and what a game it was.  I have a couple of fleets with mostly small ships and these fleets have just short range weapons.  It is a late game but, I find them to be very deadly.  Had a problem with the game though, every turn since I got the system with the Academy,  been getting new Heroes every turn and couldn't find a way to stop getting heroes.  As for the short range weapons, I can see why the AI uses them.
