Description:

During election my level 7 militarist hero is replaced with a level 3 militarist hero.

This doesn't make any sense as the new hero doesn't have any senate skills while the previous one had.

During election I choose to support Pacifist Party but that doesn't make any difference as I replayed the turn and the same hero change happens when I choose to support militarits party.

Steps to Reproduce:  Load save and end turn.

Reproducibility5/5

Expected Behavior:

Player should be able to select which hero will represent party in senate.

At the least the game should not choose heroes that don't have any skills when there are heroes that have them.

This shouldn't happen. Your highest level hero should always be in charge. This is certainly a bug.

Even though Dominik is the kind of piece of shit that would end up hijacking a party, I think this is a bug.

It's not the highest lvl, but the first hero u recruit for that party. Thing is with hired from marketplace heroes that they become "first hired" when(if) they appear on the marketplace and not when u actually buy(recruit) them. So let's say Dominik appears on the marketplace before u got your first militarist hero - he becomes the senator when u buy him even if this happens after u recruited your "first" militarist hero.

Thanks for the explanation.
It does make sense and shows how the mechanic works.

Still should be fixed as a bug.
Best if players would be able to nominate heroes for senate. The highest level / oldest hero isn't always the best candidate.

I know that it has been like a few years since this has been posted, but I just figure it out and thought I would let you all know. This involves modding your save game so be sure to have backups.

First is to have XML saves (so you don't have to deal with binary files, go to launch properties and put in "--use-xml-save")

Second is to open your .sav file as an zip archive (7zip) and open Game.xml in Notepad or Notepad++

Third is to find your hero's (the one you want to be senator) GUID. Use these tags to locate your hero, search for one specific tag using Ctrl-F, then look at the top tag (should have GUID="XXXX") and what party they are (it is Politics0X)
<Descriptors Count="4">
<Descriptor>ClassHero</Descriptor>
<Descriptor>HeroAffinityPirates</Descriptor>
<Descriptor>HeroClassAdventurer</Descriptor>
<Descriptor>Politics01</Descriptor>
<Property Name="Experience" BaseValue="31.0499954" />
<Property Name="Health" BaseValue="100" />
<Property Name="Level" BaseValue="40" />
<Property Name="AssignmentCooldown" BaseValue="0" />
<Property Name="AssignmentLockdownDuration" BaseValue="-1" />

Lastly, find your Senate by Crtl-F and search for <Senators Count="X">. Make sure that it is your senate, you can cross-reference the number of law active below or scroll up until you see Empire="0". For that party (Politics0X), replace the tag "<RepresentativeHeroGUID>XXXX</RepresentativeHeroGUID>" with your hero GUID.

From what I have seen, their senate effects do take place and they will not be replaced (unless another hero overtakes them in the senator skill and/or has a higher level). If this happens, just change it back to what hero you want.
