UPTADE : The quest is fine! See my last anwser below

Hi Amplitude!

Thanks for the great expansion, I'm really enjoying Penumbra! Sadly, I have this to report :

Description

While playing with the Umbral Choir, the Unique Planets Chapter 2: Seek the Unique -- Part 1 quest is impossible to complete successfully because the quest does not count Sanctuaries as Colonies or Outposts

Steps to Reproduce

  1. While playing the Umbral Choir, discover the Unique Planets Chapter 2: Seek the Unique -- Part 1 quest with the following objective : "Colonize or create an Outpost on (X) Unique Planets in less than (Y) turns"
  2. After creating a sanctuary on any Unique Planet (colonized by another faction or not), notice the objective counter is unchanged
  3. ????
  4. Don't profit. The quest fails as intended when the timer expires and the quest chain is allowed to continue

Reproducibility

2/2 games. As far as I can tell, this is the intended behavior and not bug, since Sanctuaries are not Colonies or Outposts. I doubt this is the intended gameplay of the quest however so the solution might be to add Sanctuaries to the list of valid objects for this objective. If someone else has the correct behavior in the same circumstances then there might be an underlying bug but for me this happens 100%, creates no errors or strange behavior and the quest chain is allowed to continue once the timer expires, with the Part 1 quest failing correctly

Expected Behavior:

See above; the quest behavior seems correct but the objective as currently defined prevents the Umbral Choir from ever succeeding

Version:

V1.4.2 S5 GOLD-Public

Notes

I'll keep you updated of any further attempts

This is strange cuz i remember i was able to complete the quest by creating the sanctuary on unique planets. Could you please provide a save to investigate?

I also completed this quest. The devs clearly tailored this one for UC, as you also skip the usual next step (place a level 10 governor on the system, which really isn't possible for UC). When you placed the sanctuary, did you make sure to open the pop-up menu to make sure you were placing the sanctuary on the unique planet, and not some other planet in the system?

Yes I did, and I remember clearly about it not registering because one time I had a sanctuary on both Bilgeli and Sykagoja and the objective still said 1/2, which then dropped to 0 when I moved my home system, thus removing Nexus.

Now I don't remember if I had any population and/or sleepers on said sanctuaries or if anything could've kept the sanctuary from registering. I'll give it a third go soon and upload the save file.

UPDATE : The Quest is fine, I'm just too slow apparently.

I did notice one strange behavior that explains my previous thinking about the quest : new sanctuaries don't register on the turn they're created, but only on the start of the following turn. It's entirely possible I completed the quest on the very last turn and that the quest's fail state activated before the sanctuaries registered.

In my third attempt I did manage to colonize Auriga way ahead of the deadline but the quest still did not complete right away and the counter still showed "1/2" (1 being Nexus). At the next start of turn however, the sanctuary apparently registered and the quest completed successfully.

I'm not sure if this is normal behavior or not, but as far as I'm concerned my issue as a whole is a false report and I'll consider it closed. I'll still upload the last attempt I made for reference in the main post.

Thanks all!

Hey, thank you for pointing this out. While the quest seems to be fine, I am not sure the delay in Sanctuaries registering is intended, so I have informed the team.
