Multiple Vodyani Scout ship classes

  • Summary / Title: The Vodyani have 2 different scout ship classes available
  • Description: Races usually only have one scout ship class available. But the Vodyani can create Scout designs using 2 different Goaym templates. The 2 Goaym templates available offer different types of modules (the usual A/A/SD/S and a SD/A/SD/S)
  • Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start a game as the Vodyani. // 2. Open the Military Status menu. // 3. Click on the Create button below the Ship Designs list. // 4. Open the HULL drop down list.
  • Reproducibility: 5/5
  • Expected Behavior: Only one Goaym class should be visible and available. (probably the A/A/SD/S one)
  • Version: V1.5.3 S5 GOLD-Public and V1.5.5
  • Notes: Verifying the integrity of game files returns no errors. The bug is not present in the 1.4.21 version available throught the Steam BETAS menu.

Hmm, after checking, yeah, it does that for me also. I couldn't locate any previous threads about this, but I don't think G2G is known for its search function. I could have missed something.

Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have any impact on the game with either one (i played through a couple turns with both queued with various loadouts). Although, maybe something could crash down the road if you created a variant of the "wrong" scout that comes back to bite you somehow. It's popular to create a variant of the scout for early game combat, so I can see how  doing so could be unnerving.

I have not been able to experience any kind of crash or more annoying behaviour, indeed I also have not seen any kind of similar duplicates in other races I have played in the new update so far. This is not a critical bug for sure. Seems like there are a few more prioritized issues, still hope G2G notices it and it gets easiliy fixed! Thanks for the great game anyway ;)

Thanks for the report. We've added it to our database, though I suspect this might not be a high priority bug.


As you guessed, this bug should be harmless, if a bit confusing.

The bugged Goaym (the one with SD/A/SD/S) can have two modules equipped in the SD slots. To reproduce, create a new design of the bugged Goaym class, and double click on a defense or support module to auto-assign it to a slot. It will be assigned to one of the SD slots, but the icon will appear "behind" the slot icon and slightly greyed out. You can then assign another module to that slot, on top of the first module.

I think bugs that can be fixed in mere minutes should get high priority and not plague the game for years.

Hmm...that seems to make this a significantly more high priority bug, as that can break balance pretty bad.

I just found that the double module bug also applies to the bugged Goaym's attack modules. So you can have an earlygame "exploration" ship with 2 attack modules, 4 defense modules, and an engine. Or if you want an actual exploration ship, 2 probes and 3 engines.

Is there a mod for a batch of fixes Amplitude is to lazy to endorse?

To my knowledge, this design is intentional. It's even featured in several guides. Vodyani just have two different versions of scout ships, one is better for weapons and the other is better for modules. It's been in the game since launch. 


*edit* Well, I didn't know about that one AngryAboutElves mentioned. That does sound pretty legitamate.
