Bug description

Lately I have been running into a problem concerning the faction quest that gives the independent law "Scrap Kings". Upon completion, the screen will notify you that the quest has been completed, and the game will continue as normal, but the law in question no longer appears on the options for laws to pass. As it is both powerful and free of influencecost, it is a very difficult thing to simply ignore on harder difficulties.

Steps to reproduce

1. Create a Riftborn faction with base traits except:

a. "Epistis Citizens" --> "Amblyr Citizens"
b. "Wary Travelers I" --> "Constructionists I"

2. Complete Faction Quest that gives the quest reward of "Scrap Kings". If the wikia is to be believed, that is Ch. 1, Pt. 3

3. Attempt to enact the Law in the appropriate menu the next turn- it should not appear as an option

Reproducibility

(For Reference:)

It is a score, usually out of 5, that shows how consistent the problem is.

Here's a little rundown if the different "Reproducibility":

5/5 - Consistent, happens every time with the described steps and even in other cases that might not be included in the report

4/5 - Mostly consistent, easy to reproduce but sometimes it doesn't happen

3/5 - Mostly inconsistent, feels like it happens only half of the time. At this point, it might be wise to reevaluate the steps to reproduce

2/5 - Inconsistent, it happens... sometimes. At this point, the steps to reproduce are not going to be very helpful

1/5 - Very inconsistent, basically it's either  random or the steps to reproduce aren't correct

Once - It happened once. Never managed to reproduce.

Random - The bane of our devs It happens at a variable frequency but the steps to reproduce cannot be identified

- - - - - - - - - - -

A solid 5. I've played a half-dozen different games in the past week, and I chose Scrap Kings for every game; it has yet to appear as an option after completion in any of them.

I have not played another custom faction or base Riftborn in that time, so I do not know if the issue is with this setup or more broadly with the Riftborn questline itself.

Expected behavior

Expected: The Law "Scrap Kings" is available for use after the faction quest that unlocks it

Reality: No new Law appears when the faction quest is complete

Version

V 1.5.3 S5 GOLD-Public

Notes

Thank you for reading, and please help! The Riftborn are my favorite faction, and it will be incredibly difficult to accomplish the dream of beating an Endless AI without a crucial faction buff.

Hi, are there any updates on this rewarded laws by faction quests issue? I just ran into this issue today. Any options to fix it yet? Or do we just wait for the next patch?

As of approximately last night,  Sophons* were still broken. Weirdly, Umbral Choir's "Burning Metal" wasn't, though. I haven't tried 1.5.10 yet.

*An overpowered Sandbox-modded custom version of them because I wanted no distractions in my bug reproduction.

At least this mod from community member Kuma does fix it (same with quest-related laws not working). From what he tells about, work of 5 minutes... I still don't get why responsibles from Amplitude don't invest a little money for bug-fixing, especially since latest DLC. Pretty bad for Amplitudes reputation - at least the feeling on my end. Keep in mind, this mod does reorganize a lot of game mechanics - in a more challenging way than vanilla game.

After reading your comment I feel even more astonished. My shattered love for this game stings like hell. There's no comparison in their attitude after awakening dlc with previous projects. Humankind is not good excuse to leave this game in such state for such long time, at least in my opinion.

Thanks for the link nonetheless.

I did a playthrough with this mod and was suprised how much effort was put in. However, changes to probes and planet types were not appealing to me and made me deactivate it again.

Since it seems you've talked to the creator: Did you ask if there's any chance he creates a separate mod just for the bugfixes? I have no idea about modding and how long this would take. But I'm currently considering getting into it just to fix this damn door law. The last months were painful as a sophon/riftborn main.

As long as I know, our community manager, The-Cat-o-Nine-Tales, did get a lot of fixes offered by community members, what are well skilled modders. Not to talk about offered bug reports by community, what should allow to fix the most common bugs. Our community manager, what once was a community member like us, before working at Amplitude is a reliable dude. I have no doubts he did pass the fixes and ideas to polish Endless Space 2 to the decision makers at Amplitude. Don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's modders turn this case.
