Game crashes while attempting to load, gets stuck at "launching game"

Hi, all I am very new to this and so I apologize for any mistakes I am about to make. The bug is pretty simple, but at the same time I have no idea how to fix it. As far as I can tell any new game started and and old game loaded results in my game making only to the "launching game" stage and then just hangs.

The tutorial does work if that helps anyone. The steps I have done to attempt to fix this issue were checking Dxdiag to make sure everything was up to date. Restarting my computer. Updating my graphics card. Changing in game options for starting a new game (how many AI players and not using my custom made race). Disabling all DLC that I have downloaded. Verifying game files via steam verification. Running the game as an administrator.

None of these things managed to change anything when trying to play the game, also as I have not played the game in quite awhile I could not really tell what if anything specific that changed. There does seem to be quite a bit of the same issue from back in 2017 when the game was first released but as that game version was so old compared to the current none of those fixes worked either.

My version is 1.5.10 S5 Gold-Public (pretty sure that last bit isn't my version but I will include it as why the heck not)

DxDiag.txt

Diagnostics - 2019'10'24 @2056'38''.html

output_log.txt ---- I found this in a folder called Endless Space 2 Data, not  in a folder named in the YYYY-MM-DD_HHMMSS format created in case of crash like the guide for finding it suggests.

UPDATE: As I was writing this post I was able to start a game! I turned every setting in the starting game screen to "normal" or as close to normal as I could figure and was able to launch the game, however it doesn't change much as the way I want to play the game is still unavailable but I will continue testing to see what I can find out.

Thanks for any and all help provided!

Hi, me again, so I did a bunch of testing on my own to try and figure it out since I just spent nearly 30$ on the game's dlc and I want to play it. I found out that actually most of the settings for the game work. The issue lies in "exceptional" galaxy size at players of 8+. 7 players on exceptional works, but 8,9,10,11,12 all fail. Also Collosal size works with 12 so it seems to be very specific on exceptional size. None of the other settings seem to make it fail to launch.

This being said with my limited computer knowledge my only guess is that it is a memory issue, and I do not know how to allocate extra ram space to a steam game or anything of similar nature. If anyone here does know how to do that please let me know, I will try that if anyone can provide that fix. I do hope all this effort helps you devs try and fix this issue. I would like to play the game on exceptional size with 12 players ( I enjoy many players and long gameplay)! OH and I have 16GB of ram and the game is using no where near that much, nor is any other program sucking up my ram either (my task manager shows a max usage of about 40% during the load in screen with Endless space 2.exe using something around 3GB).

Thank you for your help or anything you can provide in this issue!

Interesting! I will try this for myself today. Great to see that you managed to find the possible issue.

Hm you know you seem to be right, if I turn down my other settings and then turn it up to 12 players on exceptional galaxy size it does still manage to load. Maybe its because I have the entire game turned to basically be the max settings possible on every single setting. For example in your picture I have Galaxy density set to high, speed set to endless, difficulty set to endless, and pirates set to None (I tend to dislike things getting in the way of my stupid massive expantion tactic). I also have Minor civs set to low, all resources, anomalys, curiosities  set to high. No special nodes. Everything else I believe is close to just normal settings.

With the settings you described, indeed the game hangs. I waited 5 minutes for the game to load, then called it quits.

So it must be somewhere in the high settings. You could try to set the anomalies, curiosities to normal, see if that works.

Or maybe the starlanes density lower. I can imagine that is a lot of work for the game to calculate.

Kind regards, Keimpe
