After you invade and destroy a pirate stronghold, you get a little flavour text describing this event.

Unfortunately, it happens even if a ground battle fails or is abandoned - it's a bit incongruous announcing a great victory after a retreat...

Update: this appears to happen with many failed invasions - indicating the invader has won, even if they have lost.
