Diplomacy seems very bugged after loading saves

Something is very weird with diplomacy in this game. Yesterday i played for a few hours in a row and felt like victory would be mine in 20 turns or so (science/wonder victory) Then the next day when i load the latest save there is suddenly a barrage of diplomacy messages, treaty requests, truces, alliance requests etc, even from factions that yesterday was my prime competitor and was very hostile. When i try to go through them all most of them are already void, since the AI has made treaties or alliances with other factions. 


It's as if the AI has completely forgotten it's agenda from the day before, even if i load up some autosaves from the turns before i saved, the same things happen, Even though yesterday they did not.


Is diplomacy in this game supposed to work like that? It's completely made me go from liking ES2 to disliking it and not wanting to even bother playing it.

I do experience a burst of diplomatic activity sometimes when I load into a previous save; activity that wasn't there before. but I've never had it be inconsistent or explainable with my prior diplomatic standings.

That's how AI works, not all states are saved so it has to recalculate all over its decision tree again. But its a double sided coin, really: on one side AI changes its attitude upon loading, on the flip side it unstucks from unintentional behavioral loops it could get in before. I always felt that fresh loaded AI is more clear thinking, then the one from couple hours of play.
