This happens to me all the time. I get at or above level 50 and some space battles, which I usually don't instigate, start loading. At first it shows all the participants like image below, and then it shows the fleet layout. While the game is loading the battle and displaying the fleet layout, it crashes to the desktop with no message or crash dump. I have noticed that many times it is pirates

Guess you make use of mods (48 command points on screenshot)? You could try to deactivate watch (battle) to solve this crash. Anyway, in case you make use of mods, always read it's description...
