This so much; was hoping we could get a definitive answer for ES2 since the Linux ports for ES/EL was always a "we'll look into it" thing.

Unfortunately, any new platform support increases production needs exponentially for the people behind it (the production, QA & marketing teams). This is regardless of the amount of copies sold for the platform.

Considering the current market penetration of Linux on Steam is 0.9% of users, we're still below the threshold at which this would become a worthwhile investment.

I was a Linux user for a fairly long time (on an old Mandrake distro — those were the days!), so I do know that the Linux community is as passionate as the rest of our players, but short of emulators, there's currently no plan to bring ES2 (or EL) to Linux.

A version of the Unity engine has been released in late august with experimental Linux support.

Thus, I hardly see ES2 being available on Linux at the release date, rather a later patch that may bring this.

If Linux support isn't possible at all (and that would bring me to tears), I hope the Wine support will be at least as good as the first one.

The game is still in development and it is using Unity engine so it should to be a big problem to release it on GNU... or would it?

I presently game on Windows...but have run various GNU/Linux distributions on the side for the last 15 years. With the SteamBox being Linux-based, developing any new ones to run on this platform would be a boon for your sales. Especially if Unity is already the core.

I'm pretty sure the game is being developed in Unity (as has been the case with Endless Space as well as the other games I think, which is obvious on the steam store page) which features multiplatform development. That being said, I don't know about the additional requirements of deployment to Linux, and how hard it is to pull off and test. In general I'd also be in favor of a Linux release if possible and not too much trouble.

That would be nice, my brother uses linux and i'd really like to co-op with him. He could not play to ES1 for the same reason...

I had to pass on both Endless Legends and Dungeon of the Endless and that is a shame since they look like great games!

But I really look forward to play this with my 50 inches home-made Steam Machine... smiley: smile

The Endless universe on GNU/Linux would be amazing. So I could get rid of my Windows installation at last smiley: smile
