THE POPULATION

Rationale

We want the population to be at the heart of empire management. The population of each faction will have its own unique character in terms of economic outlook, political preferences, and perception of the world. The player will need to pay attention to the composition of the population of their empire in order to make decisions that won’t anger their citizens.

Key points

The population

  • provides FIDSI bonuses specific to their faction
  • interacts with minor factions
  • supports and oppose various government policies
  • perceives the world their own way
  • can be composed of a plurality of races and opinions
  • is affected by a player’s decisions

Hi!

I already posted in the GDD 2, but I thought it was interesting to open a dedicated thread.

For the population part it could be interesting to separate race and faction.

In this way, race could affect FIDSI and other bonuses regardless of the original faction of the population, while the faction of origin can influence the population's reaction to war or deals with their homeland, also affecting the Senate.

I also think that the idea is a good one. It´s a little creepy, if you capture a Planet and the whole Population transform into your owen Guys, thats a little like the Necromantics in HoMM.

Whats about 20% Race A 20% Fidsi of Race A, 30 % of Race B 30% Fidsi of Race B and so on

It doesn't though. If you land occupation forces, they replace some of the defeated population after the battle, which makes the system much more yours, and if you capture it tradionally, most of the population there is still enemy one, and they usually aren't happy with it; and you're not really on control of the system.

If you read all the technology and system improvments tooltips like me in Endless Space I^^

You know that Hissho use massive propaganda to control their xeno citizens/ Cravers use mind control / and oddly enough Horatio have a talent to get along with alien species very well/Amoeba too. / United Empire just oppresses them/ Sowers just ignore them as long as they dont interfere with their priorities.

For the other races there was no particular information given how they deal with aliens in their empire as far as I remember.

I would realy wish the Devs would flesh out those different ways of dealing with alien population in Endless Space II.

Chances are good though smiley: smile

Yes, every race and/or faction could have different ways of control population and different reaction to control from the population, including reaction to diplomacy with the people's homeland

Indeed treating for example the amoebas bad should affect the diplomatic interactions and relationships with their motherland, could also affect trade or something like that.

Could also go the other way:

Maybe even they would do acts of sabotage if you are at war with the home empire of an opressed species within your empire.

I dare to dream ; )

I can´t link good emotions to genocide and oppression, On the other hand the conquering of a system can´t change the kind of Alien so the fidsi won´t vary. No the troopers didn´t stay on the system injured ones recover after view rounds on the same shipagain.

Um no, I usually bomb planets first into oblivion and then invade with ground troops. I end up with max population systems and all most of my ground forces gone. So it seems like ground forces fill up population and you gonna keep only those which do not fit onto the system. Which makes sense as those ground units represents population of their home planets. You can depopulate a planet rapidly with just producing ground troops or colonists as well.
