Okay so I've been playing a fair bit of Endless Space lately in preparation for the upcoming sequel and I noticed some things that gave me some new ideas for game play. To start with we already know that each system has influence "clouds" so to speak, where players can say they are safe from things like pirates and espionage without opening their borders to other players. However in the first game, these clouds do little in comparison to their possible potential. Basically when one player's influence area envelops a system controlled by another player, it VASTLY reduces the gain from that system to it owner. Basically it would allow for a diplomacy based play-style where the player would try to absorb territories owned by other players into their influence field. Its just an idea though.

I'll probably add more diplomacy ideas to this page later on, especially with all the cool new options for it. There's lots of potential.

I believe in my modding efforts long ago, I actually did come across modifiers applied to systems under enemy influence. However, I think that as soon as an outpost turns into a colony it becomes almost impossible to actually get it underneath enemy influence. The best I have seen so far is reducing the system's influence to a tiny speck just barely covering the star.
