Now that we have minor faction in endless space 2 could we have a faction that focuses on working with them to expand. Maybe could the Amoeba become a benevolent version of the cult, a faction that wants to protect minor factions and let them grown. The Amoeba would have the unique ability of building seed ships for allied minor factions while having themselves a gigantic expansion disapproval, encouraging expanding with their minor faction allies. The Amoeba would receive some of the FIDS and ships of their minor faction allies. Trade routes with minors would also get a boost.

So you advise developers to add something that they just did in previous game?

Do you honestly think it's a fresh idea that they didn't thought about?

This was just the beginning of an idea but a crucial difference is already their: they can expand minor factions territory and let them colonize new land, you could let them expand until the biggest are major factions who are forever allied with you.

But if you want a more different version of this idea:

The cloud people

In the organic material in the upper layers of a gas giant developed life, eventually sentient life, the cloud people. The cloud people are very light beings who simply float in the upper layers of gas giants. They have found ways to build floating constructions from the elements they find in the upper gas layers. They need to stay in the gas and need the strong magnetic field of gas giants to survive, even in space suits can’t they life anywhere else for long. They are fascinated with other forms of intelligent life, and have a parental attitude towards them. They realize that they need the help of other beings to secure their solar systems and bring them metals and other hard stuffs.

Starts on random gas giant with moon

Good alignment

Affinity:

Double pop cap on gas giants

Can never colonize non gas giants

Gets x% of allied minor factions industrial production

Can build seed ships to help expand minor faction of their choice

Traits:

Gas plankton They eat a type of gas plankton, they even learned to build floating "farms" with very high concentrations of gas plankton. This plankton has also been successfully moved to other gas giants. +4 food/pop on gas giants.

Native Gas Beings They produce at least 2 FIDS/pop an all gas giants

Lack of metals: Metals are very rare in the upper layers of gas giants, -50% industry on cloud people worlds

Don’t waste them: They would never waste something as valuable as metals on things that are shot away: they can’t build gun or missile ships themselves

Laser specialists: They have developed very complicated gas based lasers , +x% damage and accuracy with lasers

3D beings: They are used to living in a truly 3 dimensional world, every cloud being family has his own plane for transportation in the huge upper layers of their gas giant. Increased evasion with StrikeCraft , StrikeCraft arrive faster at the enemy. Those strikecraft use lasers as weapons, they even developed a type of laser bombs for their bombers.

Put out system: Minor factions build gun and missile ships for them based on the technology they learn from the cloud people.

True friends: The cloud people truly adore the minor factions. When more minor faction unit die in a battle then cloud people’s do they get -20% approval for 20 turns, this stacks.

Protectors: The cloud people are automatically at war with anyone who attacks a minor faction they know, they don’t lose reputation if this breaks an alliance or other treaty.

The Amoeba didn't do this in the previous game, because there were no Minor Factions in the previous Endless Space. Given that they aren't the same series, yes, it makes sense to request that. On top of that, what he's asking for isn't also based completely on the Cult either, if you read what he wrote.

Maybe before jumping down someone's throat, actually read through their stuff.

As to the OP, I'm a little leery of making the Amoeba too difficult to spread out (And this is coming from someone who loves building tall, not wide empires). Could you imagine how frustrating it would be to find out there are no Minor Factions anywhere near your starting position? The early malus could basically set you up for failure, as the lower FIDSI production means it would take longer to gain viable colonies, and build Colony Ships, and pass laws to stay competitive. You'd be playing catch up all game. Now, that said, I am hoping for more racial identity this time around. Ultimately, by the time you hit late game, everyone plays relatively similar, with the exception of Sowers and the Harmony.

Maybe a "start bias" can fix this like in civ5. In civ5 depended the Iroquois on nearby forest, they got a start bias to start in forest if any was on the map. The same could work for the Amoeba or the Cloud People I suggested later: they get the start position with most nearby minor factions.

I see one more possibility: Cravers may earn some bonuses from Minor Factions. But I think that they should earn them from destruction of MF, not living in friendship with them smiley: smile. I always used to see Cravers like cyber-Zergs, so why don't let them assimilate Minor Factions?

Does one assimilate their dinner? I guess they do become part of my cells after I eat them...

I guess those could both be easy solutions. The random map generator could always be nudged to provide certain details, and the Cravers could use a little more OMNOMNOM qualities. =P

I think it's an interesting idea to have a faction that relies on assimilated minor factions to expand. As far as the issue of not getting a minor faction is concerned: The ES one galaxy generator had the ability to guarantee certain aspects, especially the home systems, so in ES2 the galaxy generator could probably be set up to guarantee a minor faction in the starting system of any faction that really needs a minor ally.
