I love RTS Games and so I have the idea to give Edless Space 2 two game modes.

Mode 1: Turn-based

Mode 2: Real-time-based

The game's balanced around you having time to do stuff I think, and more importantly, it would probably require massive engine changes for something most players wouldn't use.

Nobody knows. If Endless Space 1 was in development the genre was dead and the players love the game and now we talk about Endless Space 2. Perhaps a RTS Mode can be released as DLC.

I don't think that would be possible at all; the changes to the engine to make the game run Real-Time rather than turn-based would be too severe to work for DLC.

Only the developers can answer the question. I give the idea and hope they can do it.

I think it will give a new game feeling, if it is possible to play the game one time as round-based and other time as real-time-based. You can choose with mode you want to play. I think thats great.

I think it´s not the question if it is possible. The question is, if the developers want to do the work to modify the engine and how much must they change. (Perhaps the must write a complete new engine, perhaps the only have to modify a little bit. We don´t know the code behind the engine. The other question is, if the players like the idea. It´s a risk, but it´s always a risk to do something new. Remember: Games like Endless Space are dead as the developers create the game. So I think the devs have no problem to take a risk and today there are some more space games, so they must do something to stand out from the crowd without destroy the game feeling of Endless Space 1 (Most of the fails some game studios do, because they think they must something new. Best example for me: Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 1 is very great, Guild Wars 2 is terrible and not the continuation what a lot of players had expected.

With my idea Amplitude can catch two birds with one stone:

1) Give the players of Endless Space 1 the known game-feeling

2) Got new players they like RTS

(And make me happy, because I like both (OK, RTS a little bit more) smiley: biggrin)

Uh, no this won't be happening. The mechanics of this game are all designed around turn based play...what you are talking about is a fundamental change to how this game plays at its most core level. You might as well be asking for first-person mechanics and minecraft-esque crafting to be included in the game as well.

I'd rather have 1 game made well than having Amplitude worry about balancing/coding/making content for two different game modes. There is nothing wrong with turn-based 4x games at the moment. There are plenty of non-turn-based space games in the market as well anyways.

We're getting closer to release each day and honestly why would they waste time on a bad idea like this? I can't even properly call this an "idea", it's more like a brain fart.

This is like going into BioWare forums and saying something like;

"Hey, I have an idea for the new Mass Effect game, Mode 1: RPG Mode 2: FPS Mode 3:RTS Mode 4: Racing, I think it would be good and get the attention of all people who like these genres therefore your game becomes more popular (="

This is a Turn Based 4X game and that's why we loved the first game anyway and I hope that it won't change.

If you want a space RTS, I recommend Sins of a Solar Empire. For Endless Space 2 to try and be like it while also being a traditional 4x would be a massive, and futile, drain on resources.

Yeah, every single aspect of the game was designed around turn-based gameplay. It's not a rational expectation to assume they can just suddenly port all the gameplay to RTS. All time-scales, the battle system, events, travel and even small things like diplomacy would ALL need to be redone to work with the new RTS. It would be like essentially building a whole new game.

This idea would be very, very hard to implement. We're talking "making a completely new game from scratch" here. smiley: smile

Yes, but it would be nice to have a game like that. (I dont like Sins of a Solar Empire) I have discarded the idea, and create a new thread with an other idea. Hope it´s more possible. But thanks for reading and answer it
