I know this is entirely too early, as we haven't even seen a GDD on ship design, but based on what we know already, I thought I'd share this idea.

We know that modules will be placed in certain slots throughout a ship, and certain weapon modules will have a fixed firing degree. This seems like it might be set up for, at the very least, turrets and broadside cannons. My idea is that, if 2-3 or more slots make a line, a player can place a heavy weapon along that line of weapon slots. By heavy weapons I mean like railguns or large laser cannons. Such weapons would be fixed towards the bow of the ship and only able to fire forward in a narrow arc. These weapons would have the longest ranges and damage per hit, trading off the rounds per second and versatility of multiple turrets or broadsides.

However, I would totally understand if such a thing never made it into the game because of balancing issues, incompatibility with systems framework, as well as art and animation constraints (I noticed in the only available video that the turrets slid up or outward from their presumed slots. Making a whole new set of animations that encapsulates multiple slots in this manner could stretch their resources too thin).

Still, I think heavy weapons like this could add much artistically and building strategy wise, as well as add another layer of difference between ship hulls within and beyond a single faction.
