A 'Raider' faction for ES2

So one of my ideas for a faction is that they have a unique ability whenever they defeat a planets defenses to instead of taking it over, they loot some of its Dust, Food, Industry and maybe some Science while leaving the planet in a state of anarchy. Their ships also have a technology that passively steals Dust from non-player factions that can be improved as the game passes.


Im thinking of making this faction the Broken Lords 2.0 as they rely heavily on Dust and they are going to run an empire so they might as well integrate people who need food. (But not as much food is needed for them than other factions)

They can be very expansive heavy faction just like EL's Broken Lords.


My ideas of traits are:

Improved attack
Inferior defense
Lower requirement of Food needed to get a population (maybe 20%less)
Bad in diplomacy (Will cost more Influence to do Influence costs actions)
Ships can travel farther
Unruly Populace (Either their population takes longer to get back fro Anarchy or buildings that gives approval work less as others)


Starting Technologies can focus on 1 Military tech and a Dust tech.





Their quests should be a about why were they created by the Endless and what is there purpose? Eventually in the end they find out they were originally Dust Enhanced Soldiers for the Endless and they now feel it is there duty to unite the galaxy and bring back another Golden Age of the Endless with them ruling over everyone.

Shooting a bit early with that idea, we'll most probably have a Major faction creation contest, but it'll be at a later time!

What is their home-world like?

What are is their core philosophy?

What does their culture look like?

What governs their political choices?

What is their economy?

What do their ships look like?

I will base their lore on the Viking migrations.

Homeworld: Dust rich Tundra planet

Philosophy: Expansionist to get out of their world and find better land for themselves.

Culture: Viking inspired with a dash of Warhammer 40k Space Wolves.

Government: A confederation between the Nobles and chieftains (Something like United Empires)

Economy: Free Market fencing! They sell what they looted for money

Ships: Look up Warhammer 40k Imperial Navy,

To add to what HiveAscension mentioned regarding the faction creation contest, this contest will have guidelines regarding the faction, for instance for the Endless Legend contest that gave us Cultists, one of the guidelines was that the faction's gameplay would be centered around Minor Factions.



So far we haven't revealed what it'll be for Endless Space 2, but don't worry, it'll be revealed in due time. :)

Hmmm - that's interesting. It may be best to hold off coming up with ideas for now in that case, otherwise you could end up with a faction that doesn't really look like it fits the playstyle.
