Increase weapon variety, I love customization!
Increase weapon variety, I like combat with planning and depth!
The same weapon variety, the preivious title hit the sweet spot, no need to fix what aint broke!
The same weapon variety, put those resources into expanding combat in a different way!
Less weapon variety, I want to focus on other aspecs of planning and battle!
Less weapon variety, I want abilities/tactics/expansions to dictate fights more then weapons!
Other perfectly reasonable variety of weapons!

Hey Endless Space community!


I wanted to start a little talk on our new shiny forums about weapon variety and how you want to see it represented in Endless Space 2. Now I've played a lot of Endless Space 1, but I'm not expert and have my own opinions of how things ought to be, but it's not about my personal bias it's YOURS!


I hoped to encapsulate many opinions with the poll, but I'm only human and can't get every angle. 


Endless Space had a sufficient combat system, with cards, weapons, and ranges all coming into play for how effective your weapons were. But early on it devolved into suicide missile destroyers due to cost/benefit of missiles at max range, destroyer chassis low cost, and the high burst potential of many large fleets of them. This was ALL fixed with time of course, but it does bring up some things to think about. What kind of weapons ought to be the in game, how should they behave? With the new combat style of Endless Legend will we see yet another huge leap and bound into a realm of even deeper combat? Currently my best guess is we will have ballistic, laser, and missile offensive weapons, with their respective armor, shields, and flak for defense. With additional modules like carriers and other such tactics. 


Modifiers: This is a continuation of what was in Disharmony, but the idea that you can make a weapon long, medium, or close range effective when you install it. This is already helping the pool of potential combinations on ships. For all intents and purposes lets say Modifiers all so fall under the moniker of weapon variety.


Boarding Parties: I don't recall it being within the Disharmony expansion for Endless Space 1, it might be an interesting expansion on combat, relying on a boarding module on a tanky ship escorted by a contingent of guards to get the payload to its destination. Potentially capturing heroes or obtaining intel about that nation's position, tech, or otherwise.


BUT I could just be full of it and not know what I'm talking about, I'm just one noob talking about a game he loves and hopes you love too.


TL;DR: What kind of ship customization would you like to see going forward in Endless Space 2 (specifically about offensive capabilities)?

Battle system in ES2 will work in a rather different way compared to ES1, according to GDDs (Battle overview, Ship design).

So, while your suggestion might improve upon ES1 system, I just can't see any positive effect from increasing weapons variety from specified in GDDs in ES2.
