So I like how the first Endless Space game looked and everything, but what I really would like is to be able to see cities and system improvements. Like in Endless Legend give each of the factions their own architecture for it all. You know Sophons have spherical satellites, and Silicoids have giant diamond looking satellites, things like that. But I would also love to be able to kinda see cities as you zoom into a planet. I think it would add a cool graphic effect to the game and also give a more in-depth feeling to the faction you play as. I like how the ships look different, but I always wondered what their cities and systems improvements would look like. I know, a lot of coding would go into that... but in the long run, just think of how cool it would look!

It's a valid suggestion, and you're not the first to suggest a way to look in-depth at a faction's buildings and in general, society. However, from a production perspective, visuals, and especially those that are 3D (planets rotate, after all), are the most costly asset to produce.

Now if on top of having to produce visuals for every improvement, you take into account that Cravers would be unlikely to have, say, the same visuals for factories as Sophons, and then you end up with 8 times the number of assets to produce. This is unfortunately not a sustainable approach for us.

Some day, maybe...

I would desire quite the opposite, for there to be an option to simply manage systems and planets via 2D gui, sometimes the lag between loading map and the system becomes unnecessary.

Don't get me wrong it's delightful eye candy but I would love an option to just simplify it for faster turns.

Hello Community,

yes i agree with you 100 percent, but first, before i start my remarks on this subject, i have to say, that i'm german, so maybe my english will not be perfect/good. i played 4x strategy games for years and started playing this genre when master of orion 2 came out. this was about 20 years ago. In the community and in the press it is/was the most popular 4x turn-based strategy game of all time (togther with imperium galactica 2 i think).
But at one point, I forgot the turn-based 4x games, played other games when I had time ...until now.
For about 2 weeks I remembered the good old times and searched for a well done 4x title, absolutly convinced that there would be a worthy successor for those old pearls. So i went to steam and was looking for this master of orion 4. Well great I thought and started watching a review video. I was excited to see the ground combat...and the planetary view...and all the reasons motivating you as a player to play such games for a long time - i mean those details that make a game great.
I was really excited ... and really pissed of after this video.
One has 3D-HD-super-special-textures and ships and warp effects BUT one has NO invading-a-f******[1]-planet-screen - we are germans we like invading :D. Mhhh yes this is not possible, because the creators did NOT implement a planet view (only some [bad word]-buildings which you can see from space {very realistic}).
Okey, the third part was not good and now the fourth is better then the third but not as good as the second. So there must be other games, games where you can see what an epic civilization is living on the planet with all their buildings and which you can take from them with your troops. I looked further on other 4x titles and so i downloaded Horizon, Space Empires V, Stardrive 2 and an other [1] game (don't remember the name but it wasn't even turn based!) hoping they would have what i'm looking for (and to support the type of 4x games) but i could not found a single one that includes all the things which are necessary. So i ask google for help and there was it - endless space 2 - with animated ground combat (and I thought god hates the genre :D). I buyed it on steam and have started playing...yes...dear ladies and gentlemen - where is the PLANET VIEW??? I don't need the manual ship battle, that's okey, your video sequences are great (and hd), your game is turn-based, YOU  HAVE GROUND BATTLE (did i told you, that i do like this?... even with Blitzkrieg :D) so dear developers do you want that your game will be epic? do you want this? Then you have to include planet views. And no, that is not difficult. Take a camera (with hd resolution) and make some landscape pictures (you can change them a little bit) and when the player clicks on the planet, the picture will open. And on this picture the player will see some 3D modells of his buildings and that's it. Do it...you have to do it - PLEASE :)
There are no actual games with ground battle, planet view, good graphics, turn-based. So take the chance

I think some of the unique home planets do have cities/lights visible from orbit.
