Thought I'd give it a shot and knock something up, this is a basic idea I had for an Unfallen Dreadnought class ship. I wanted to go for something that looked imposing and organic themed. This is just a work in progress so I haven't added gun mounts or any particular details yet, I'll be sure to add and change parts. Please feel free to give suggestions and criticism.

Why would trees have a human body?

Most of the entries don't really have one. They just have a lower body with legs and an upper body with arms.

Looks pretty good. The only things that I'd probably recommend would be more details and maybe some more colour variation between certain sections. It's a tad too  monochromatic.

You're right, I was thinking seeing as the Unfallen are a Cyborg race utilising machinery and organic material, was going to incorporate dark metallic sections with the tree like hull moulded around them. These could mount the turrets.

Perhaps you mean Human-like?  It does seem hard to break from the stereotypical Treefolk.  They are such a common fantasy theme, when you search google image there are a lot of humanoid bipedal types.  I'm getting a familiar Craver/Molimo Maro-Sorcerer vibe from the recent entries here, but I am still enjoying the art display.  I hope we get more variety though.

Humans basically have the best body for civilisation that we have ever known. Everything about is perfect for our position as the masters of the universe, a manifestation of nature and the universe it's self trying to understand IT'S self!

So yeah, breaking the mould often bring sup questions of how such lifeforms are capable of doing darn near anything at all without at least having a mighty noodley appendige.

Also, the musings over a caste system and incorporated stone, etc. are awesome. I love the ideas.

Great work!

As someone who wants to see as little controversy as possible on this forum, I want to ask something to the Amplicrew : Is the last contest winner allowed to be supporting someone publicly ?

I don't think it would particularly matter seeing how the community itself has the final say with the voting system.

Define "support"

Ofc he can say "I like that, I like this" but I think he/she should stay away from promoting a particular submission as it would otherwise distort the contest. A open support or even promotion from his side speaking of the very winner of phase one could indeed manipulate the voting decisions of ppls.

"But I have so many ideas!"

"Shh, it's a community faction, let the community do it and go back to designing AI!"

A good sign we made the right choice then.

Also here is a 100m ship, (ignore 300m written underneath, mistakes were had)

As you can see, on this "little" ship there is a single solar sail curving up from the underbelly. The 5 circles on the ship is meant to represent modules; on this design the modules would be spread across with upper flat sections. Featured on the front of the ship is the 5 eyes since the "little" ship is an Unfallen, a really big space Treant.

On terms of colourations, I think natural colours like blues, oranges, browns and greens will work well on the living elements; I like the idea that the sails would be a vibrant glowing orange to contrast with the rest of the ship. Although more traditional colours don't need to be used since we are working with Alien plantlife.

Now the question is, is the ship the captain or is the ship acting like an on board ai? Or is it both at the same time...

I like it dont get me wrong.
It is only that the front looks like the ameoba dreadnought from Endless Space One.

Its not done yet since there is the lower robe*, leg's and leftmost arm to draw in, as well as finishing touches to do overall but I'm done for today. So this is what I've been up to for the past while there, enjoy folks:

Guns for hands, hands for guns, and being a living bioweapon seems to suit's the Unfallen well in my opinion, since they also form giant kick-ass spaceships and probably other "vehicles". I can certainly think of one with a chest cannon, and chest guns are awesome.

It's...beautiful. Seriously cool-looking. The other concept designs look great but this simply takes the cake for me. Bloody love the look of that weapon.

One thing I would recommend is adding a tad more metal/ores to the warrior type; although it is highly unlikely the Unfallen would find themselves on a desert, molten or arctic world, I would imagine their military to possess a frame a bit more resilient/versatile than what would be required in their usual climate. I mean, even hardened wood burns.

You know, while I had the same thoughts on other materials being incorporated into the designs I never actually thought about different planet climates and how that would affect the overall look. How would an Unfallen look on a volcanic world compared to another on a artic world.

In terms of surviving harsher climites surely some gentic talioring is involved rather than hiding in structures or wearing suits, although I can certainly imagine a volcanic dweller to be trending towards a rock elemental or have a different "bark" tone, bark type.

Agree, it's a nice art. But!

I really hope people will go further in their experiments and find something more unique (or at least less stereotypical).

For example, very first Unfallen could have shared root system and so grow in groups (a severe form of Siamese twins). Each of group members did its own function like in The Gods Themselves -> but today Unfallen vave not exist as such groups because are already contain all these members in one body ('merged'types)? Or even with technical possibility to live separately (each Unfallen has legs :P), they still prefer to live in groups with clear specialization of its members?

Other thing: if faction lore says that Unfallen rather die than fight for their planet, why they have 'natural' soldiers at all? Soldier can look as standard sapling: totally not born to fight -- but equipped with fighting gear. Or gives orders to robotic servants. Or fights only by exploding nearby enemies?

Because the same reason, their spaceships could be spherical and so not effective in maneuvering. Then, what if Unfallen actually aren't trees but look like trees because of some sort of body modification? And older Unfallen has more 'layers' of these modifications (onion)?

And so on. I love techno-magic of 'Endless' games, and this magic can be much more interesting, than dryads or ents.

Okay, time to share some of my WIP (currently working on ships)

Full description not included but I've used the following lines

- wanted to avoid humanoid shapes. I've tried doing some creatures walking on flexible roots, then went for this more naga/slug look. The older and bigger the Unfallen the less mobile it is.

- they don't have face, but features some light, sound and varied chemical sensors. Most Unfallen use bio synthetic enhancements that give them vision on par with "animal" sophonts.

- they keep only a vestigial foliage for esthetical reasons. Unfallen feed from prepared food made from other plants. With their aquired mobily the have developped retractable feeding roots, and more efficient respiratory organs than basic foliage

- they tolerate grafts rather easily compared to animals and have since long used other plants as bio component producer. Most of their clothing is actually integrated withing their bodies

- Unfallen seedlings are quite expandable as only a few of them will developp a full conscience and mature into their long lived progenitors. As such, they and a array of other mobile plants subspecies are used for many tasks.

The civilian is circa 3.5 m high. The more diplomacy oriented Unfallen can wear more formal attire in order to put other species at ease

The warrior is middle aged and 10m high. Following a very defensive doctrine, these guardian wield both portable energy shield and point defense and weapons on par with other species vehicles.

the civilians mask reminds me of the big tree golems the wild walker get in endless legend but this looks very nice

Indeed it was my initial source of inspiration. Since it was in another Endless game I thought it could be a neat visual link.

Spaceships WIP, still subject to many changes.

Very nice! I love the masks!

I think more people should use masks or other native american/aztec/shamanic themed details in their design!

Beautiful ship designs as well!

This contest has so many good entries, it feels almost like a visual feast...a vegetarian one, but a feast none the less.

I wish I had enough artistic talent to enter the competition, but alas, I can't even beat a toddler at finger painting, let alone win an art contest.

I'm practically teary-eyed at how well you guys are bringing the Unfallen to life.

This is the best thing I've been a part of since I started eXplorminate. Well done, guys...well done...

We never actually asked, but is the Unfallen's homework a Forrest, Terran or a Jungle planet. I just realised that we don't really know much about their homeworld.

I really like your idea here. A mix of plant and cyborg sounds cool and it looks interesting. But then there are the Cravers which dominate the Cyborg theme. A tough competition.

This gives me a Star Trek vibe, look for the Doomsday Machine episode. I love Star Trek, so.....

Cool I like that and your considarations which went into it. Nicely done. I can't exactly pinpoint it but the overall design itches a special nerve. It's very stylized. You did a great job without putting too much detail into it. What I try to say is it doesn't look fiddly. It is just about the right amount of detail without getting lost. The outlines and shapes are very clear. It's colorfull and cartoony but in the right way. Reminds me of the artstyle of Wildstar which is a plus for me.

-Deoder, civillian;

-Bohbi, corvette;

-Ashvattha, destroyer;

-Walleecha, cruiser;

-Kalpavriksha, battleship;

-Yggdrasil, dreadnought (following Hinin)
