Honestly in this age of 30+ factions in the Galacivs and Stellaris we are restricted to only 8 races again. One wants to play epic maps with all races included in expansions.

I'd rather have 8 empires with meaningful relationships than 30 empires that barely interact with one another...

That being said, I would like the maximum amount of players should reflect the number of available empires, i.e. 8 unique empires/8 player max, 10 unique empires/10 player max

First, this games also has the 16 minor faction races. Yes they aren't "playable", but they are a crucial part of any empire, and even have their own unique ships (I think?). And second, I think the strength of the Endless games is in quality not quantity. Each faction is drastically different to play, with unique mechanics, quests, story lines, victory goals. This is in contrast to most other 4X games, where the different races may have a unique building/unit or bonus to some resource production, but beyond these slight number tweaks, and the facade of appearance, they are all identical.

IMO, having 30+ playable races for this game would drastically destroy these advantages. And also, you can use the custom faction editor to make what you want anyway.

I think he's talking about having more than eight players in a given map. Which would be nice, especially if there were more than eight factions as has turned out to be the case in both ES and EL after some expansions.

Unlike GalCiv, Endless Space factions are different beyond simple stats.

No really the point. The point is when all expansions are done we are stuck with 8 rather than playing an possible epic with 14 races after expansions. There is no reason to restrict it to 8 races.

There is the AI to consider. More empires in the game means more relationships for the AI to consider on each empire. 1, 3, 6, 10... At 8 empires, there are already 32 different relations, as well as 7 instances of internal considerations. Depending on how the AI works, adding more could lead to very long turn processing times.

More race can be cool really but I prefer to get few races with a lot of backgrounds ^^

But yeah you're right, Endless need More race, maybe Mod/Game2Gather could help

And that's what I loved about the first ES1. The range of choice and the depth of design for each race.
