I once heard that minor factions possess their own fleets, is that true? and if so, can their ship's blueprints and tecnology be use as the player's main fleet? Hi, and welcome to the forums! Now, this question has been asked quite a bit since it was revealed that minor factions would be in Endless Space 2. And there have been many discussions on the topic since then. So since there are so many threads and discussions on the topic already, I'll list a brief overview of what we know about our new neighbors in the galaxy.
Minor factions will be replacing the ABC pirate group from Endless Space as the source of pirate fleets in the galaxy.
Each minor faction's ship designs are pulled from one of four families of 2 to 3 ships. These families are Technologists, Scavengers, Primitives, and Xenos. It is currently unknown if we will be able to incorporate minor faction ship designs into our navies.
Minor factions will be filling a roll similar to that of city/nation states. Each minor faction will control their own star system with their own influence radius. The player must maintain a relationship with these factions through diplomacy, and while war can be declared against them we will also be able to develop a relationship as allies. The relationships with minor factions appear to have an effect on how often that group's ships will attack yours a.k.a. when at war you will be a priority, when at peace you will probably be avoided.
Each minor faction has their own unique political ideals and bonuses to add to your empire. These bonuses do seem to repeat, however each one minor faction also has a secondary bonus that seems to activate upon certain conditions being met (Haroshems give +2 on arid planets and such).
(not confirmed) Minor faction units will appear in your planetary armies in ground battles. This seems to have been hinted at as in the gamescom ground battle footage you can see the occasional non-Craver unit mixed among with the Craver ground forces.
Diplomacy has been improoved with teh addition of a meter which shows the status of your relationship with the selected minor faction (if they have not been assimilated).
WIth 2-3 possible ships at their disposal it appears that minor factions will be capable of actually presenting a decent threat since 3 ship models means 2 small ships an 1 medium (corvette, destroyer, cruiser). Having an early game to early-mid-game threat like minor factions around would help to make the galaxy far more dynamic than it was in the original game, as players will be forced to keep an eye on NPC nation states while fighting one another.
And that's all I can recall off of the top of my head. If anyone knows anything else I humbly offer my list to be extended and/or corrected if necessary.
Thank you for the info! It seems a very interesting concept putting so much effort depth on minor factions. I wonder if, in the right circumstances, can actually be a threat late game, or can they grow to gigantic proportions
