Has anyone seen the AI use shields or long range weapons?

I have so far played games as all four of the factions on normal difficulty, and in none of those games have I seen any AI ships with shields; and I have never seen long range weapons (the missiles). About 90-95% of all ships I've seen have been default short/med range kinetics.
Is this an AI issue, or just the difficulty setting dumbing the AI down far too much?

I have not. In all honesty I don't think the AI customizes their ships. The AI, from my understand, is pretty basic. It can do things but not high level stuff yet. This is just the beginning of early access.
Oh... Also they seem to randomly kill themselves off. There could be multiple reasons for this from throwing themselves into debt, or just not able to handle the political game.

I have. I don't think the AI customises their ships though, it seems to be using just one preset. For example, Sophons always seem to use missiles on their hinter class ship and shields+lasers on their coordinators.

I think they use Default. because if I remember correctly... Those ships actually default to those weapons/defenses. Tho I haven't played on higher than medium difficulty.

Having the AI use particular ship presets could be thematically cool.
