I understand the Vodyani are made of essence/energy and they survive by leeching energy/essence from other lifeforms, is there any place where this is explained in detail (design document, dev thread/blog, etc), I mean, what they actually are , etc?

You have to also remember, they're utilizing technology scavenged from the endless. If the intro is to be taken literally then they started out as these kinda strange looking creatures, hunched over and with reverse knees. Now they're utilizing, from what I understand, kinda early Virtualization technology to house their consciousness in suits, more like the Broken Lords from EL than the Virtual Endless who were shown to just kinda float around. Thus it stands to reason, maybe there were just more feminine suits xD and it also fixes up the bit where people were saying stuff like "Why do they look so human?", well, the Endless were almost direct humanoid analogs so it flows that the suits follow in that tradition.

I dunno, i just really like their design personally. Probably gonna be my personal favorite if the vaulters don't make it in (Which I'm willing to start a bet that if they're not with release they'll be in an Expansion.)

And maybe, they realized they had more space to put the essence if they had b***s. So it's a practical thing too! :D
